This a fantastic park! The playground has something for everyone. A Large playground structure, toddler area, jungle gyms, merry-go-round, swings, and a nature play area.

The large play structure is a 3 story wonder. The first level has lounge swings, small handhold climbing wall, and small windows for whatever children can imagine. The second level has ADA stairs, ladder, fire pole, a small rope climb, and a fun open top slide. The third level is accessible via climable landings. Once at the top kids can survey their kingdom from look out or take the super long enclosed slide back to the bottom.

The main playground has mix of soft rubber ground and wood chips. There is a jungle gym that is true to the name. It is constructed of wood poles and thick ropes. The ADA merry-go-round is flush with the rubberized floor and allows for anyone to sit or stand while it is spun. The last climbing structure is all about balance! All obstacles are set about 18 inches above the ground. Kids can practice walking across a suspension bridge, balance beam, swinging beam, monkey bars, and small twisted rope feature. The swings include a standard swing, disc swing, and a friend & me swing.

On the far side is a small toddler area with a climbable purple dinosaur. The ground is fake grass. There is a short but steep slide for adventurous tots.

The nature play area has a fun hut built out of branches. Lots of stumps to balance or hide behind. What realy stood out was the bunches of free branches to let your builders create their own fort or shelter.

The main picnic area is shaded with lots of trees, features 6 picnic tables, 3 benches and a water fountain...

Great place... Kid-Friendly Options

There are several trails that are short, flat or gently sloping, which makes them appropriate for younger kids, toddlers, strollers.

Easy loop trails (e.g. the Walnut Creek Loop) are highly rated by families for being manageable and enjoyable.

Variety in Trails

Multiple kinds of trails: paved, natural surfaces, creek crossings, wooded areas, and open areas. So you can pick something easy and shaded, or something a bit more adventurous.

Having side trails / loops allows good flexibility (go long or short) depending on how much energy kids have.

Good Scenic & Natural Features

Creek access and crossings are fun — kids often enjoy seeing / playing in the water.

Wooded sections help some shade, and add a feel of being in nature.

Amenities & Connections

There are paved, wide paths good for strollers, bikes, wheelchairs.

Playground areas and places to pause/rest/play are present along or near the trail system.

The paved path is accessible and nice even when trails are muddy.

Free / Public Use and Good Infrastructure

Access is free.

Parking is available, though sometimes in high‐demand spots.

Flexibility / Multi-Use

Works for walking, running, biking, family outings.

Some trails allow off-leash (for dogs) or are dog-friendly.

Great for Getting Outdoors & Nature Learning

Being near creeks, seeing wildlife/plants, enjoying natural sights. Good for exploratory walks with kids.

The setting encourages both gentle activity and more vigorous (if...

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is a wonderful spot for anyone looking to get outdoors and enjoy a bit of nature without leaving the city. It’s one of those places where you can truly unwind, whether you’re walking, biking, or just soaking up the scenery.

The parking lot is well-designed and spacious, making it easy to find a spot early in the morning. However, it’s worth noting that it can get busier as the day goes on, especially after 9 am. Arriving earlier is a good idea if you want a stress-free start to your visit.

The trails are the park’s biggest highlight. There are well-maintained paths for both bikers and walkers, and they weave through some of the prettiest parts of the park. Bikers will love the variety in the trails, while walkers can enjoy a more relaxed pace with plenty of shady spots and scenic views.

The creek access is another standout feature. Walking in the creek is a fun and refreshing activity, especially when the weather is warm. It adds a sense of adventure to your visit and is great for kids and adults alike. The natural beauty of the park, with its tall trees and open spaces, makes the whole experience feel peaceful and rejuvenating.

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is one of Austin’s gems, offering a perfect mix of nature and convenience. Whether you’re out for a hike, a bike ride, or just looking for a calm place to relax, it’s a place that won’t disappoint. Just plan to arrive early if you want to...
