Pros:
A great practice putting green. 4 practice holes with room to chip from the fringe and rough Easy check-in with very polite staff Super friendly and easy to work with Great bar Drink selection was fairly nice and snack options were classic Comfortable golf carts equipped with an interactive GPS and scorecard feature.
Cons:
Unkempt tee boxes (pictured provided) occasionally looking for places to tee up without grass between the ball and driver Fairways were rough covered in grass clippings, scattered with clover, and patched with knee-high grass around places a weedeater should go Bunkers were without sand Greens were cratered with ball marks
We chose Prestwick based on its proximity to another destination on our visit to the Indy area. And the pictures showed a promising destination at that. I see now, writing this review, that all but one golf course picture here is from years ago and are not accurate of today's course or designed hazards.
Overall, our group's experience was poor. We had high hopes given the exceptional service at arrival and the well-kept practice green. The first tee box and fairway and green were in great shape, too! From there, Prestwick went downhill quickly leaving much to be desired.
The course conditions are described in the cons list above. Given the exceptional weather for spring this year, course conditions all around Indiana are some of the best I've seen, but not at Prestwick.
Two of the three people in our group were first-timers at Prestwick, but definitely no strangers to golf. The third, an Indy-area native, has played Prestwick at all points of its history. None of us will be back.
Outside of course amenities and conditions, the regulars weren't too polite. Even with two of us never playing the course before and the potential to lose your ball in unkempt fairways, we were paced for a 4 hour round. The regulars, who had to wait for a grand total of 2 lost ball searches, were audibly and visibly impolite, even rude, to us. Our pace of play would have been even quicker had we not been forced to wait on another player standing in the fairway taking a phone call.
If you want to go to Prestwick for anything outside of the building, we don't recommend it.
PS - I can't comment on the driving range as it is closed on...
Read moreWe will never come back to this place again. We read a post that was placed in the Avon Chatter Group on Facebook about the restaurant. I called ahead asking about reserving seating to dine outside. I was told no reserved seating was allowed. I wanted to take my husband out for his birthday, and we were excited to try the food at the Prestwick. We looked at the menu prior, and had in mind what he wanted to try. We arrive at 705pm on 8/18/23 to a half empty bar/restaurant with a band playing. We walked around to a window near the door to the outdoor seating. There was a lady with short dirty blond hair at the cash register.
She never looked up, but said, "sit anywhere inside." Me: "may we sit outside?" Her: "If there is a spot, yes." My husband and I proceed to go outside. There were several spots outside. The people that were outside, wasn't eating, but going in and out of the bar to grab drinks. We were talking to them.
Ten minutes later, no came out to greet us or give us menus. I went back to the window, and asked the same lady for menus. She was very dismissive and said, "we'll bring them out to you."
Another 10-15 minutes went by, and no one came out there. My husband and I got up and went back inside. We looked inside the restaurant, and there were even less people than before. There was an older lady with dark hair with her hair up watching us as we walked passed the bar/restaurant towards the door. No one tried to stop us. No said anything or apologized for having us wait with no service for over twenty minutes. We left.
If the outdoor sitting was closed or you didn't want to serve us, you should have just said so. We were definitely not welcomed there, and we will never be back. The environment with the stick-in-the-muds.
We have been to better country clubs. That was more welcoming and more beautiful.
Thankfully, we were able to still salvage what was left of the evening from that huge disappointment. We drove down to the Whiskey Bent Bar. The vibe was just right. The environment was so welcoming. The outdoor seating was nice. The food and drinks were tasty. We had an amazing server name Brandy who took care of us. We thanked her for how professional she was, and how she turned our night around. To see how happy my husband was, made my night. We will definitely be going...
Read moreWe have tried several time to give them a chance. Everytime they put something on FB about new menu, new staff, etc we eventually break down and go. So we tried it again. Not a good experience. First off my wife ordered an appetizer before we got there, the loaded fries. When they came out, the fries tasted great, but on a big plate of fries, there was maybe .25 cup of shredded cheese on them with bacon crumbles. We had to request sour cream and jalapenos, which show on the menu as coming on the appetizer. By the time we were almost done with them, the sour cream shows up. They tasted good, just not a very appetizing appetizer the way they showed up to the table.
I ordered the mushroom and swiss, no onions. Came out and had onions everywhere, as well as lettuce and tomoato. Mind you the menu says nothing about lettuce and tomato. Sent it back, I told them just the mushrooms and the swiss, nothing else. Came out with lettuce and tomatos again. Burger tasted good once I finally ate it. They tried to bring me a fish sandwich instead, however it belonged to a different table, which seemed like a theme. Several times, the food runner brought food out to the wrong table. She had no clue. It shouldn't have been that tough, since when we were there, there were only 6 tables occupied.
My wife ordered the Margherita pizza that tasted just like a plain cheese pizza with chopped tomatoes. She ordered this before from the old menu and it was much better before they changed the way they make it. She said the best part about it was the crust.
When we were done, I got the check. It had a charge for lettuce and tomato on it for $1. Mind you, I didn't order lettuce or tomato. I asked our server if they charge for lettuce and tomato, and her response was "is it on there, I will take it off". So I guess they do charge for it.
I think it is about time they farm the restaurant out to an established restranteur that would pay them a portion of the profits. I know places like Sahms do things like this and it is a win win for everyone. It is apparent that Prestwick has struggled to put a good product out...
