My Grandfather and Great Grandfather were doctors so I looked forward to seeing this museum. It truly gave you a feel of the old time country doctor with a very well done tour.
From seeing how leaches were used by early doctors, to how pills were made from scratch to and how homeopathy medicine was used. Even some civil war medical tools are on display. I also enjoyed seeing the doctors buggies and classic cars including the iron lung and the story behind it.

ECU School of Medicine is now the overseeing caretaker of this nugget of history. They are open Tuesday through Friday 10-4. Minimal cost of $8.54. They have a senior and student rate. They have small group tours starting every hour. Bathrooms and picnic areas are available. They have a great little gift shop and lots of parking. Read moreThis is a great little hidden gem. My wife and I have passed the sign on Hwy 264 many times and finally decided to stop today. We’re glad we did. They have a small guided tour that lasts about 45 min but it’s very interesting and informative. Our guide, Lizzy, was very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. You can tell she actually enjoys what she does here. We learned quite a few things we never knew about doctors and nurses from years gone by and boy have things changed.
