I’ve crossed this bridge every day, sometimes multiple times a day, since I was a teenager. It’s a nightmare. There have been MANY times when it’s taken me 2 hours to cross the river. I’ve also wrecked on the outer veins so I can personally attest to how dangerous it is. Going eastbound, you have traffic from hwy 190 & hwy 1 south in Port Allen (Erwinville, new roads, false River, River road) all funneled down to one on ramp, so Port Allen gets backed up into town, then you have hwy 1 south in Brusly (Addis, Plaquemine, White Castle, all the way down to theNew Irleans West Bank & the coast near Thibodeaux) which also funnels down into one lane ON THE SAME ON RAMP AS THE ONE COMING FROM PORT ALLEN, which backs up traffic miles into Brusly, & then you have the I-10 E side coming from Lafayette & lake Charles... so 2 lanes going south, 2 lanes going north, and 2 lanes going east, all 6 all of these funnel down into ONE LANE as you exit the bridge in Baton Rouge. One lane goes south continuing i-10 E & one lane exits north onto I-110 N. That’s right, folks. The interstate coming off of the bridge has one lane going north & one lane going south. The westbound side of the bridge has similar construction problems. Rush hour is always hell, but in addition to that “regular” traffic, THERE ARE MULTIPLE WRECKS ON THIS BRIDGE DAILY, with no shoulders to move wrecks out of the roads, so you never know what time of day the bridge will be a parking lot or a mildly...
Read moreThis bridge always seems to be backed up for miles and if you break down or get into an accident on this bridge, heaven help you. Louisiana's Department of Transportation and Development should close down the on-ramps from Louisiana Highway 1 in WBR Parish and downtown in EBR. There is too much of a bottleneck at those ramps. But even worse is eastbound where it all jams into a single lane for I-110 north and one to stay on I-10.
I hated this bridge when I lived in Baton Rouge. It is still a nightmare.
Use the US 190 bridge in north Baton Rouge. It may be narrower, but it is almost never backed up. You'll reach your destination faster than you would using I-10 because of the relative...
Read moreI had no idea bridges have a comment section and now that I know I feel compelled to add my review so here it is. This bridge has got it all. It has the looks to be a star, the brains of a Nobel laureate, and the personality to win over even the most skeptical driver. Don't get me started on her artistic curves and symmetry. Driving onto her is like returning to the womb the way it envelopes you in a feeling of love and safety. Her deck sings the song of her people as she carries you across her long elegant span. A true...
