Bit expensive for what it is, but it's a great thing to have in the community.
EXHIBITS: By far the coolest thing is the mummy exhibit. I just wish it explained more about the physiology of the mummy and why it's "unusual." I'm comparing this to the MSI in Chicago in my head, so maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but the exhibits were sparse. Even the art exhibits lacked, quite honestly. If they were going to go that route, I'd have preferred more of a local artist section. The upstairs light exhibit was basically just what happens when affluent people get ahold of a particle collider. Not very interesting. I feel like a lot of the art was just affluent people doing meaningless stuff for aesthetic purposes, which is fine and all but not the caliber I was hoping for. I was hoping for more thought-provoking or working class art.
I feel the experience of being at LASM is very much hindered by COVID-19 being a thing, which really highlights the scarcity of the exhibits.
GIFT SHOP: Small, disappointing, and overpriced. Very much aimed at children. Even the t-shirts are disappointing and boring visually, which is odd for an art museum.
That said, we had a great time together. It was just a little pricy for the variety they had. But it isn't every day I get to see a mummy, so I was happy just for that. The staff is also SO sweet and...
Read moreThe museum is very nice, and very clean. The staff are all kind and nice to the children. The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is that the city of Baton Rouge put no thought into parking for this facility. In order to get there I drove around for almost 30 minutes looking for parking. Driving around looking for parking with a careful of young children is not fun. I came very close to finding an alternate outing. Once parked we had two very busy roads to cross.
My 4 year old granddaughter witnessed a tractor trailer rig coming within 2 seconds of crashing into the rear of a car that suddenly turned left in the intersection of the pedestrian crossing. The driver then went into a cursing rage with the windows rolled down. Not exactly the wholesome outing I was seeking.
I feel certain many do find alternatives for the children, and this is a substantial loss to this amazing museum. This is not New York city folks, we all have cars.
In addition, I think the prices are too high for the children. Of course, if more people came perhaps they could...
Read moreI went here on a Saturday as a date with my husband. We arrived around 2/3pm knowing it would be closed in a few hours. However, I wish the front desk would've mentioned a few things when we bought our tickets - 1) they were setting up for an event which caused some of the main hall to be crowded with tables that were set up (preventing us from enjoying the downstairs exhibit); 2) that the planetarium shows were done for the day (which was a large part of why we went); and 3) that one of the exhibits were under construction and part of the hall was closed. The art and Egyptian exhibits were very enjoyable, but I don't feel we got a good value for what we paid. If they did some sort of prorated cost and mentioned there were no shows, I would consider going back at that time of day. You will want to make sure you check showtimes and get there early enough if that's on your radar... Otherwise, it's pretty pointless. Also, if you have kids and want to go to the kid-friendly portion of the museum - make sure...
