I love almost everything about this library. The librarians are friendly, capable, and professional (especially the book fairy - you know who you are), and the selection of programs available is good. My little kids loved the snack bags, the gerbils, and the toy area. We lived in Beavercreek for 3 years and went to the library at least twice a month for story time and to check out books.
My only complaint about the Beavercreek library is that, as a conservative parent, trying to check out children’s books that align with my values is like navigating a minefield. A huge percentage of the children’s books on prominent display are noticeably “woke,” progressive, left-leaning, etc. Whatever you want to call it. Multiple times I checked out seemingly apolitical children’s books only to open them at home and see rainbow flags or climate change activism all over the pages. My two-year-old, who doesn’t even know what race is, would bring me books off the shelves about Coretta Scott King and Rosa Parks because those books were the ones put in the most visible and accessible places… for two-year-olds. I have nothing against those women and went ahead and read the books to my child, but you won't find books about George Washington or Margaret Thatcher as easily, and that's telling.
Libraries are free to offer whatever books they’d like, and patrons are free to check out whatever books they choose. Whatever floats your boat. Just be aware that this library definitely leans one way, politically, and the book selection reflects that. If you are conservative or even independent, you may not feel like the selection of books at the Beavercreek library caters to you or...
Read moreThis place is not kid friendly, they use to have the children's library at the front so it was somewhat closed off from the main library which is so critical because as anyone with little children can attest crying happens and you can not always simply quiet them down. This is what happened to me, after attending a crowded and hot storytime my kids went straight to the computers, when it was time to leave to sign up for our library cards my 3yr old was very upset and proceeded to cry... and cry, I understand that this was disrupting EVERYONE esp with the children's library being open to the whole library, so I tried my best to get what needed to get done as quick as possible so we could leave, as I was finishing up with the librarian another librarian approached me to inform me they were getting quite a few complaints that I need to quiet her down or leave. No one thought to offer me or my distraught child any help but plenty saw need to complain, I doubt I'll be returning with my kids anytime soon, but it seems that's just how...
Read moreThe library has a large selection of materials. Books, DVDs (no blu-ray), magazines and CDs. They lend ukulele, go pro, telescopes. They have on- line borrowing. If they don't have it they will find it for you. The staff is friendly and helpful. So now for the bad at least for me. It is some other patrons of the library that are rude, loud and pushy. The parking lot is one way with signs and painted arrows yet people will drive the wrong way to beat you to a parking spot. I have nearly been hit by cars speeding the wrong way. There is a no smoking or vaping anywhere on property sign yet they do right next to the front doors. And last and most importantly. I have been push out of the way by another patron who wanted the new release movie I was...
