Mainely Gallery & Studio — Attraction in Belfast

Mainely Gallery & Studio, run by a super nice family, is a great place to find handmade art, with an emphasis on glass art. The shop is well run and beautiful! But it's much more than an art gallery. Owners Brian and Stephanie also offer community classes and workshops so that people can find their inner artist / glass nerd and let them roam free! I do not think of myself as a very handy or crafty or artistic person, but I recently had the pleasure of taking a workshop to make "scrappy birds:" stained glass birds that are made out of scraps of glass. I went with my partner, who has been making stained glass art for a number of years (I have never done it before). We both had a good time and learned new stuff! Heather, the teacher, was approachable, knowledgeable and friendly. I learned how to wrap the glass in copper foil, use a soldering iron and attach little legs and a tail to my scrappy birds. Heather took something that had seemed difficult and out of reach and made it understandable. Best of all, I got to take home my glass art birds and hang them in the window, where they catch the light and make me smile. This was a great way to while away a cold and snowy winter night! I'm excited to take more classes there. Perhaps I am crafty...

Highly recommend beating the heat by sitting out on on the gallery deck overlooking the stunning ever-changing gardens with a cappuccino & pastry du jour as you contemplate which art piece you will buy next because you are so worth it! Great backyard spot for butterfly & bird enthusiasts too.

Mainely Gallery also offers various crafting classes, inspiring live demonstrations, as well as a rotating gallery exhibition of their local artists including gorgeous & unique glass blown pieces by the owners, Stephanie & Brian.
