If you're looking for quick break from the city on a nice shady walk in the woods, THIS IS NOT IT. Idk how there can be so many trees with only the tiniest scraps of shade here and there, but this is a hike that should only be taken early in the morning or late at night. The sun is so harsh and the river is so far you should plan to provide water for your dog before you reach it. The paths spider all over each other so if you don't know where you're going or use a map you'll wind up walking many extra miles. It is also incredibly dusty, so expect to be filthy from the knee down. If you do come here, dress and bring water for a substantial hike, not a city walk, or you'll be just as heat stroked and miserable as I am right now. Read moreBe careful driving in because there are a lot of irresponsible people letting their dogs run around off-leash in the parking lot and road. I know it's an off leash park, but it's just common sense to keep your dog on a leash around moving cars...isn't it?
Other than that, this is an awesome off-leash area full of paths and trails, so you never feel like you are crowded, even if there is a completely full parking lots with cars along the side of the entrance.
My dogs don't love getting in the river so we stay up on the ridges and explore new trails nearly every time we're there. Just doing the same trails in different order is an adventure!

Well, the reason is when a dog is leashed they feel confined/cornered and as a result a natural defense mechanism wired in their brain takes over... and they growl or bark!
