Briggs Auction, Inc — Attraction in Bethel Township

Absolutely the WORST (wish I could give negative stars!). The salesman (who claimed to be an appraiser) told us "we are paid on commission so we strive to get top dollar" .... "our appraisers have been doing this for years". Sadly they were recommended by our family attorney so w e fell for the spiel ! They DON'T send licensed appraisers .... they sent a team to our property consisting of 4. Two appeared to be the grunt workers (nice young men, prob. minimum wage summer hires) the other two (both physically and intellectually impaired) proceeded to ransack the property AND actually damaged some pieces ... they refused to look at the paperwork we gathered with the official appraisals and receipts (completed less than a year ago for insurance purposes) and after spending two hours discussing between themselves how much they dislike the salesman decided to leave .... I asked them why they were leaving so much behind and they told me the salesman leaves everyone with the opinion that they will take the majority of the contents but that is a "bold faced lie ...he just doesn't have the guts to tell you .... he leaves that to us .... that's why you sign the contract before we start". They were then "kind enough" to offer additional clean-out services .... for cash. These people were so creepy I considered calling the police..... a member of the cleaning staff who was in the hallway actually stopped me and said she reported them to the move-out coordinator because she saw and heard what they were doing ! We just received a check for the amount they "strived" to get, less $500.00 for the packing and 30% commission .......... it's less that 10% of the value of the jewelry, antiques and silver which had been professionally appraised.... yet they took most of that AND all the furniture, artwork, fine china, etc. With the check they sent a list of sale prices and SURPRISE, there are items missing from the list ! AVOID THIS COMPANY ... unless you enjoy watching a robbery in progress or want to purchase some valuable items dirt cheap (because their "appraisers"...

I love coming to Briggs Auction! Briggs was actually the first auction/auction house I ever attended. The people at Briggs were extremely helpful to a young person not 100% sure what to do, and I have since attended many auctions (not just at Briggs) and bid on even more items, both online and in person, and Briggs continues to be in my top 3. Everyone here is extremely nice and helpful, and their absentee bid process is very fair and consistent. Their facility is really nice and actually has ample parking! One thing I wanted to address were the reviews talking about "fake" antiques. No one at Briggs turns a "blind eye" to anything, and they don't sell anything intentionally knowing that something is not authentic. Almost every auction I have ever bid at does not guarantee money back for the authenticity of all of their items, and how could they? They can't be experts in every field, but Briggs definitely does their due diligence when consigning items by researching and expert checks. Many items are listed as "possibly..." or "in the style of" when they are not sure of authenticity - you need to pay attention to the wordage of the listing. It is up to the buyer to do their research: that is how it is everywhere. If you want high end, guaranteed authentic Chinese porcelain, etc, go to Christie's or Sotheby's and spend thousands. Briggs is a really nice local auction that has high quality items and even higher quality customer service. Great deals on great items. ONE-STOP SHOPPING!!! I recently had to both move my aging parent and clear then sell our house that was in my family for 62 years. The task at hand was incomprehensible due to the amount of things in the home due to former selling platforms and other deaths in the family. I realized rather quickly I needed professional help. Long story short, everything of value got sold at auction, even the house, and I barely lifted a finger. Briggs has an entire team that caters to EVERYTHING! Living out of state, what I thought would be a nightmare became a pleasant, calm enjoyable experience full of empathy, compassion, professionalism, and respect. Everything felt right when I began this process. God surely guided me. I do have chronic health issues and felt I needed help from every angle. I got everything I needed and more. I honestly feel like Stephen and the whole team are my extended family now, and that if I ever need them again, I can hand over the keys to my home with confidence and trust.
