We first hiked to the scenic overlook. This trail takes you to the intersection 6/7(see the map). We then continued the hike to Old Baldy. We returned on the trail that goes between 5/2 intersection. The trails don't have names, but where they intersect does have numbers. It makes sense when you look at a map. Be careful when you start the hike on the trail that points to the overlook. You start out on a wooden trail that is meant to protect against errosion. As it narrows, on either side is posion ivy. If others are on the trail, you don't want to pass them. You will step in the poison ivy! If you want to avoid that alltogether, take the other trail that takes you to 5/2 intersection. It is wide, and there are beautiful pine trees on the way. You will go right up to Old Baldy which is beautiful with amazing views of the shoreline and Lake Michigan. I recommend this hike, but again, if you have kids, the first trail I described is loaded with poisen ivy. So, be careful. Otherwise, wonderful hike that took us about an hour of walking and a good 40 minutes of...
Read moreI went on an evening hike and it was absolutely gorgeous. They, like most trails have different routes you can go on and decide how far you want to go. It has beautiful scenery, and nice paths. Some of the paths in the woods, as you would expect had some roots sticking out but again, that's what you expect from wooded trails. It had open spaces and of course the dune. The water looked absolutely beautiful, and I loved it. I went with some friends and they enjoyed it a lot as well. It is a nice dog friendly, and bike friendly trail. I definitely recommend this trail or orchard beach trail. Both are easy and gorgeous. And also my best advice I can give is listen to the sign that tells you to not go down to...
Read moreLove this trail. You can make it short and easy and stick to the first section which is a wide groomed path, handicap accessible, to the first lake lookout. The walk through the woods is beautiful and in the spring filled with more wild flowers than Pete's Woods trailhead! If you take the paths further you can single file hike up the woods to Old Baldy Dune, an over 300' high dune. Spectacular lake views. Breathtaking. There is a pair of port-a-potties, , so that's always helpful. A little more out of the way, so usually not busy like the main Sleeping Bear turn outs, which is wonderful....
