I took the guided house tour on July 2nd, right after the Frank Lloyd Wright Smith House tour, both led by a wonderful guide called Elena. The tour is 1 hour and 15 minutes long and starts from the Cranbrook Art Museum, which itself is an architectural masterpiece! We were taken on a walk around the pool to the Saarinen House, with beautiful views along the way.
The house itself might seem somewhat ordinary from the outside, but the interior is truly stunning, and features a perfect blend of Nordic modernist and Arts and Crafts styles. The master’s bedroom was beautiful as well – and surprises await in the bedroom! In fact, throughout the tour, Elena showed us quite a few interesting design details, trivia, and nooks and crannies in the house. The tour ended in front of the house, and we were free to explore the rest of the campus on our own. Read moreHighly recommend it tour. The tour is an in depth visit and understanding of the house in relation to the history of the place and the school. Matt, our guide, was amazing. Not only he gave us a rich explanation of the house but he also shows around the house and the exterior and gave us time to experience and enjoy the place. A wonderful tour. I recommend also to schedule it alongside the tour of the house by Frank Lloyd Wright. Both tours are fantastic....
