Gorgeous hikes all around but it easy to lose your way, no services are nearby or offered in the trailhead, and there's spotty cell coverage. Many trails intersect and go different ways so it is important to do some map reviewing ahead of time if there is something specific that you want to see. There are 2 trailheads on either side of the valley & 3 or 4 trails to get to this waterfall and then you can continue up all the way to Lower & Upper Mohawk Lake (12,177 feet) in the shadow of Quandary. It is in a secluded valley so prepare for ice fields into July across some of the Upper Mohawk Lake trail. There are also neat historic mining cabins & implements and incredible views. I also saw some people fly fishing at Lower Mohawk Lake...

April 10 is still too early in the season due to snow. We had to turn around less than halfway due to our legs sinking 3 feet down into the snow with every step. At first that only happened every 50th step but at one point in an open area (see photo) it was too difficult to get through the snow. We had boots and snow pants but didn't bring gloves for falling down. I wish locals would post when the trail is good to hike without wearing snowshoes. Wasted an hour driving here and an hour hiking, disappointed we couldn't see the falls. The trail was obvious due to tracks in the snow and is also marked with blue diamonds on the trees. The road up to the trailhead is unpaved but possible with...

The highlight of the Spruce Creek trail, and probably one of the better 'waterfalls' in Colorado. Colorado water features are never very impressive, and waterfalls are usually no more than an impressive set of cascades versus the typical waterfall seen elsewhere in the world. There are still quite a bit of cascade features about this waterfall, but it's a very long series of steep sets of cascades all stringed together along the side of the mountain which is a difficult stretch to trek from bottom to top. My friend Veronica brought me here and I hope to return many times in the future during different seasons for more photographic...

Great hike for the little ones. Took about 45mins up and 30mins down from the closest parking lot. To get access to the closest lot, I'd recommend a 4x4, SUV, or anything with a high clearance. I did see a Subaru so it's possible. First Rivian trek for me and it did awesome. About 15-20mins away from downtown Breckenridge so if you're in the area. Do this quick hike. Went on a Sunday morning @ 9am, little to no traffic. On the way down @ 3pm it was vicious. Take the toll way when you can, it'll knock off an hour of traffic due to all the I-70 construction.
