It’s such a beautiful trail! We got to the spruce creek trailhead about 7:35am on Saturday 7/3, parking lot was full and lots of cars already parked on the sides of the road. We drove in about additional 1.5 mile with our Jeep, we took the only spot left in the 2nd parking lot and started to hike in. We also saw cars parked along the sides of the trail too. We had 2 kids with us, took lots of water breaks and picture breaks. Wildflowers were all over, the water falls and lower Mohawk Lake were beautiful, well worth it!

Beautiful lake with an even more beautiful hike leading up to it! Right before the lake you’ll run into an abandoned mining equipment which is a unique find! The lake itself is well worth the hike. Plan an additional time to hike to the Upper Mohawk lake which I was told by fellow hikers is even more stunning. Be aware, that from this point on to Upper Mohawk lake is a steep climb! Enjoy the scenery!

Was first week of June and the snow was still on most of the trail after the road, but it was packed fairly well. This is a steady uphill hike (~1800 feet), especially at the end when the last half mile to Lower Mohawk was 800 feet in half a mile. Brutal, but well worth it of the valley below. There was still too much snow to head up to Upper, but it is on my list for the next time!

I really enjoyed this hike. It was a beautiful area. Most people were confused where the trail was, but in most cases you just keep heading up and you’ll find it.. Some layering can be nice and even with 4-wheel drive it can be quite the ride before the end of the road. Definitely don’t attempt driving without 4-wheel (all the way). Is a nice hike but much longer without 4-wheel. Either way, it’s a gorgeous...
