I'm deeply sadden how the parks and recreation of Bluefield, WV can just take it upon themselves to tear down Yakkity -Yak Park. To my knowledge, there was no research behind this park before they decided to do so. Saying it served its purpose when the only thing they did was neglect it by not keeping up the maintenance on it. Which was a simple power washer and some stain. The fence around it served for the kids not to wonder off. It was harder to climb. And mother's could get a closer eye on them. Their knew park is going to be fully accessible from all sides, which means a sex offender can snatch your child at any time or fall in the creek and drown. There's no way a mother of two or more can keep their eyes on their children. They just sat up there in their fancy office and looked at a new and improved park and probably no kids and never thought out the pros and cons of their new park or their splash pad . It all sounds great. The splash pad is a cheaper version of not building a swimming pool. This is going to bring in all types of people that you certainly don't want your kids around. Plus your brand new park that's accessible from all sides. The smaller children who try to play on it will be miserable. From the older age group. It's just sad...
Read moreWe went to ride the trails on mountain bikes and it was quite fun!
We didnt know anything about the layout. The one map we found was a little difficult to follow, we didnt see a "You are here" pinpoint.
You could ride for quite a while and there are all skill levels. Theres a nice predominantly flat gravel track with kid activities sprinkled throughout. Coming off of the easy trail are other more difficult trails.
I had a 15 and 8 year old with me. The 8 year old was on a regular bmx style. Once we got off of the easy trail he had to push a lot because of the gradient. Even down hill in a few spots because his pad brakes werent working the best. Please make sure brakes are working well!
Beware the "Ho-bo" trail that comes off the creek side of the trail and leads to the road going into bluefield va. There is a guardrail at the end next to road. It doesnt appear to be city park property?
We had a great time and for me a nice workout!
Highly recommended!
Also we watched a great fireworks show there...
Read moreWe went for the Christmas lights and it was amazing, we got there when it was already dark so we couldn't appreciate the park during daytime (we will come back tho) so I will talk about the Xmas lights, we got there around 530 and there were a few cars infront of us, we drove through the gate and the woman there was very nice and friendly, we were told a donation was appreciated but not necessary, so we went through and it was like winter wonderland, this is not like the speedway lights in size, you are driving inside a park so the light displays are smaller but there were so many, it was magical, you were not just driving through but it gave you the feeling you were in the magic, the display has been excellently thought out and it was such a delight, it was really magical, we have gone to several displays and this is not the biggest but has been the best, THE BEST!!!! You won't regret coming and please make a donation, the smile in my children faces...
