Wonderland Lake Park — Attraction in Boulder

This is a lightly used, neighborhood gem, perfect for an uncomplicated and easy stretch of the legs. If you do a loop around the lake, there is some gravel and some paved pathway. It's very pretty with nice reflections of hills and sky and it is blessedly undeveloped so far. (A couple of years ago, eager beavers at City Hall threatened to add a bunch of fancy, schmancy facilities to the area but a grassroots neighborhood revolt has forestalled that effort so far. Fingers crossed; you know they'll be back.) Depending on season, various waterfowl and other wildlife can often be seen. On leash dogs are welcome. Just mind the few runners and bikes...

I must admit I was rather disappointed on this exploration. I wanted something different. I've heard people talk about Wonderland Lake with fondness in the past, so when I was checking out all the parks I've never been to here in Boulder, this one jumped out at me. When I initially read it, I thought, "oh yeah, a nice park on the shore of a lake would do me rather nicely. When I got there however, I found it was not much more than a paved walking path around the lake about 1/4 mile away from the shore at any given point. There is really nothing bad about this park, it has a nice open area next to the lake. The fence there has just been renovated by the Boulder Youth Corp. The playground area includes a swing set, a little sand box, a metal climbing gym sort of thing, and various other bits and bobs.
