We moved to the Lafayette area from the Texas panhandle about a month ago and are eager to enjoy the beautiful sights of Louisiana and learn about the culture. We took this tour upon a recommendation from my husband's co worker. Our guide was Dylan and we loved him. I kinda thought it just would be a tour of the swamp, which it was, of course, but Dylan brought the experience to life for the guests on the boat. He is obviously a native who knows his stuff! He told us so much about the wildlife - trees, birds, gators, fish, hunting seasons, moss on the trees, seasonal differentiations, the weather, even threw in a few personal stories in there that were quite funny...and so much more. It was far more than I expected. It was beautiful landscape throughout if you already appreciate or are tourists/curious about what true southern Louisiana is! We feel more like tourists since we're so new and Dylan was engaging and just plain nice all the way around no matter who you were. There were a few locals on board who were there for the birdwatching/photography aspect so this tour is really for everyone. The office set up and dock is very mom and pop...there were even some kittens and a black lab wandering around greeting the folks as we waited, all obviously very used to the strangers as they were very calm and friendly. I do recommend the early tours as the humidity and heat can get just about as comfortable as sitting in a crockpot in the afternoon - that much we have learned ourselves!! Plus Dylan said most of the critters are out in the mornings. We were worried they may cancel on us due to mild rain but nope, Dylan didn't miss a beat or shorten the tour even tho it pretty much steadily lightly rained the whole time. Take a poncho or wear ur rain jacket and ur set. We just went this morning and I have already told the relatives we'll be taking them on this tour when they visit... thanks for a great...

I'm a Louisiana native and decided haphazardly to host a handful of college friends from out of town. Instinctively, I drove us out to Lake Martin hoping to get in the water, but other tour group leaders explained that we had arrived too late in the day (I do regret not calling ahead) and would need to reschedule. Sad but undeterred, we decided to picnic near the water and wait for sunset—until Brett, bringing in his last tour for the day, spied our group. Without skipping a beat, Brett offered to take us out on the lake after all, despite what clearly had been a long and exhausting day for him already.
I genuinely can't recommend Brett enough. His knowledge of the area's ecosystem and wildlife is rivaled perhaps only by his reverence for Lake Martin. Never have I been prouder of being from southern Louisiana, than I was while listening to Brett humbly identify every passing bird, always complemented by a poetic or anatomical description leaving me and my friends spellbound. To see Lake Martin with your friends as the sun goes down is an experience unlike any other (and it really, really was), but to see the lake through the eyes and ears of someone who lives and breathes it, is almost religious. Brett, thank you for going out of your way to make our day and our entire trip! It's a day my friends and I will treasure...
Read moreI went on the late day tour in a couple of weeks ago in mid-October and it was wonderful! The guide was knowledgeable and good-natured. He pointed out the ancient cypress, birds, the rookery and alligators. It was dazzling when the late day sun filtered through the cypress and Spanish moss. The price was very reasonable for the length of the tour and the well-informed guide. The next morning before sunrise, I met with Mr. Bob who brought me in to the deeper reaches of the swamp. He is full of information and stories of every sort, about the recent flood, how the lake formed and the flight of the ibis on their way to the crayfish farms. It was so quiet we could hear the feathery sounds of the ibis flock as they flew overhead. Mr. Bob was very patient and willing to just stay put in a spot so I could just watch how the light wrapped around a cypress trunk and changed the color of the water before composing a photo. The flat-bottom boat was a real plus because it made a steady platform for my camera tripod. Both tour guides were from the area and had a deep appreciation for wild places of the swamp. I highly recommend both the group tour or an...
