Cherry-Picking Perfection at Nunn Better Farms

If you’re hunting for the quintessential Bay-Area u-pick experience, Nunn Better Farms in Brentwood delivers in every way. From the moment you turn onto Sellers Avenue and spot row after row of gleaming cherry trees, you know you’ve found something special.

just pay for the fruit you pick (about $4 per lb.). Clean, sturdy buckets are handed out at the gate, and the staff will happily tare the weight of any personal baskets you bring, so you’re only billed for pure cherry bliss.

The orchard itself is beautifully maintained. Wide, grassy aisles wind between low-hanging branches that teem with crimson Tiogas and other sweet varieties, making the fruit easy to reach for kids and adults alike—no ladders needed at this location.

Trust me—one bite and you’ll be filling those buckets fast. They also remind visitors to stay comfy and bring water, sunblock, and closed-toe shoes—sound advice once the Central Valley sun starts to climb.

We spent a leisurely morning plucking cherries, snapping photos among the blossoms, and savoring the peaceful hum of bees. Checkout was a breeze: a quick weigh-in, a swipe of the card, and we were on our way with bags brimming with jewel-toned fruit—and plans to bake pies that afternoon.

Pro tips from our visit: • Arrive right at opening (8 a.m.) to beat the heat and the crowds. • Bring your own reusable bags to cut down on plastic.

After tasting cherries this sweet, it’s easy to see why the farm’s cheeky name rings true—there really is Nunn Better. We can’t wait for...

We visited Nunn Better Farms a couple of weekends ago with a couple friends of ours as well as the toddlers.

Parking: Ample parking spots, don't worry about it.

Accessibility: Easy to spot and access from Seller's Avenue, just keep and eye out for the banners.

Crowd: It was crowded but the farm is huge and we still had a good amount of space and cherries to pick from!

All in all, it was a great experience. The toddlers loved it too and had a nice outing. We ended up picking over 3 pounds, our target was 2.

The cherries tasted amazing, they were the right amount of sweet and taut for us. Highly recommended visit and even noon time is fine because the trees will give you a good amount of shade. It does get dusty and our cars were covered with dust. Do apply sunscreen while you're in the car to make your lives easier. They did have other fruits too like Peaches and Apricots but we have those at home so our sole focus was on the cherries. You can carry a bowl of water to wash and feed your little ones. We saw people bringing their fur babies and everyone was having fun.

The staff was helpful too, they were giving directions and were kind enough to take our picture as well.

Do visit them, we plan to go a second time in the next...

Make sure you come prepared! Some things to bring:

wet wipes and paper towel/tissue paper water to wash the cherries and separate water to drink container to hold water, so you can rinse the cherries

We arrived around 10am which I thought was early, but apparently it wasnt early enough as most of the plump and dark red sweet cherries were already picked. We had a great time eating and picking the cherries, but when it got around to pay, the line was looooong af. That's the reason I took off one star. The other star I took off because the employee at the front told us that all the good cherries were located on the side orchards, but we didnt find anything good until we decided to rest in the middle orchard. That is where we ended up finding all the plump and dark red cherries! Anyhow, it was a...
