Tried to come several times when Google said was open, but it was closed. Glad to finally be able to come on a field trip, which means see a one-room schoolhouse lesson from 1888! Loved the stories each docent told and the areas it was broken into. Highlights were the train whistle, pumping water, washing clothes on washboard, the sack races, and touring the entire property.

Great free local history museum. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed ourselves. Lots to see and you can ring the bell at the school and blow the horn on the caboose! Scared the heck out of my wife so be careful! Very nicely done collection, would visit again if in town.

They people who work here are just amazing! They love their jobs and explain the history of Contra Costa so well that makes any visitors interested to continue seeing other parts.

A sample expression of the museum is a farmer museum. The building was built in 19 century, +140 years old and it is very well maintained. There is a hand water pump that kids try and learn about the underground water. The landscape is beautifully surrounded by blossom flowers. There are eight rooms in the main building, the outdoor opened barn is an amazing photo spot. One of the facinating building in the compound is a school that refelcts how students in person classroom hundred years ago. Dennis and Barb are super warmly welcome and tour free the museum. It was a fantastic trip for...

This is a wonderful way to learn about the east bay farms and ranches. The docents are kind, warm and very knowledgeable. They pay special attention towards the children, making sure they have a fun and exciting time while learning the history of the area. The school house is a favorite. The restored seats and desks show the time and love the staff puts into making sure the children get a real feel for the past...

Absolutely amazing place...I cannot explain the real information the kids took away from such a dedicated and knowledgable group of people! They learned about real classroom life in the early 1900s, they made butter, they made their own rag doll, and they learned about chores and helping out around the house. Just an awesome experience provided by astonishing people. Cannot recommend...
