Iām just finishing up the 2 month deal I got to climb here this summer, and this is a nice newer climbing gym with some room for improvement. I pretty much only boulder, so was somewhat disappointed on my first visit to see the small bouldering area with shorter walls, especially given the space devoted to and height of the roped walls. They set fairly regularly so it doesnāt get too tired up there, but they canāt do much about the size of the space. You can head over to The Factory and do some more bouldering over there and use the awesome Treadwall which makes it a much better size overall, although itās somewhat of a pain to be halfway through your workout and have to get out of climbing shoes and gather all your stuff up to head next door and then finish your workout there.
They do have fitness equipment in both gyms which is a plus, but they donāt have weekday morning/afternoon yoga or fitness classes (at least not in summer when Iāve been using the membership), they are only offered in the evenings which isnāt a time of day Iād want to try and fight rush hour traffic to get there. So I havenāt gotten to try those out even though they are included, and I would like to be doing those on the alternating days that Iām there to climb. The ninja room is also included and they have open hours for members, but having not taken a class, I was somewhat at a loss of what to do in there and when I asked about it I was basically just told yea Iām allowed to use it.
Nice locker rooms and a sink outside for washing up mid-workout which is always a plus. Staff is nice, but most are tied up in summer camp activities in the mornings so you may have to hunt someone down if you need something like a harness for the auto-belays. I wonāt be continuing with my membership at this time because of the small bouldering area and lack of weekday morning fitness/yoga classes, but I wouldnāt rule out coming back and giving them another chance once Iāve checked out some of the other gyms in the area. They are definitely better than Gravity Vault for the money, but still room to improve compared to some other gyms Iāve been to in Pittsburgh (Ascend and Iron City Boulders) and Denver (Movement Englewood and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst, this is a beautiful gym! Lovely walls, monochromatic setting, and a sweet layout. Could have easily spent more than the two hour time-slot here! For regular climbers reading this: you can tell this gym has climbers running it/contributing to it. The sets are fun and thoughtful (like actually required route reading, which you don't always find in gyms!), and we enjoyed everything we jumped on. We thought the lower grades (anything below 5.10) were perhaps a little "soft" (but still very fun!! which matters way more), and the higher grades (5.12+) felt pretty "true" by gym standards. As a 5'3 "strong" lady climber, often gyms make the harder grades "hard" by just making moves big... that wasn't the case for the climbing I did here, which was great. My 5'11 boyfriend was just as challenged as I was. There are a ton of neat features here that allow for some interesting sets: two cracks, an arch, multiple corners/aretes, slab, overhang, you name it. We didn't bring our lead rope with us (which is necessary if you want to lead during the pandemic right now), but there is a ton of lead potential here, with some super tall walls and pretty close together clipping. We spent most of our time on rope, we only really bouldered the last 20 minutes of the session, but again, super neat walls, some slab, cave, flat wall, everything you could really want. The gym also has training areas with all the climbing essentials, weights, etc. Overall, great time there, and we will definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTl:dr Amazing gym, very clean, friendly and knowledgeable staff, fun yet complex routes.
I visited the facility a few days ago, and I can undoubtedly say that this gym stands out amongst the other climbing gyms Iāve encountered. Upon entering, youāre greeted with an incredibly open environment and courteous staff members, both of which are an immediate indication of the overall experience youāll most likely encounter. I completed a thorough top rope test, and was instructed on how to leave the equipment properly stored for the next participant, which is nice considering every gym has a different preference on how to do so. I couldnāt complete a sport climbing test as I didnāt bring my own rope, which I do think is the right restriction to enforce, as lending out equipment that is harder to sterilize is the responsible thing to do currently, in my opinion. The sets were very fun and well-balanced, between myself and my climbing partner we agreed on similar proposed grades for individual climbs, despite our 8ā height difference. What we did notice though, is that grades 5.10a was very precise. Despite this, we still had a wonderful time; no other gym that Iāve visited has had both a terrific arch, slab, and crack climbing sections all dialed in to practice different climbing styles. I feel this gym is a great experience for both newer and older climbers, and would absolutely recommend...
