Taqueria El Jalapeno — Restaurant in Bridgeport

Called to place an order and left a name for the order and was told it would be an hour. Went in to pickup the food after an hour had passed and after about 10 minutes of trying to get the attention of the cashier, was asked what the items were that I ordered instead of just taking the name I left the order under and then told it was not ready yet. 20 minutes later I was asked again what my order was and that it was still being made. After 40 total minutes of waiting in the restaurant I left with the food. The food did taste great (it helped that we were especially hungry). I would definitely come back for the price and quality, but I would have preferred if I could just go in to pay and leave as waiting increases risk of exposure during this time. I was pleasantly surprised the order was 100% correct as each time the cashier asked what my items were decreased my confidence that the order would be accurate.

I placed a takeout order for my husband to pick up that included two Jarrito drinks. He got the order, grabbed the drinks which I specifically had told him were already paid for, and when he went to walk out the door they yelled at him to pay. My husband tried to tell them that he already paid, but instead of checking the order they yelled at him some more and made him pay. Embarrassed and not wanting to make trouble, he paid. When he got home and told me what happened, I called the store to tell them they had double charged us for the drinks. They said they would refund the last transaction but the refund never came through. We used to go here often but will not be going here ever again after the way they treated us! Cute place, very clean and great service. I ordered the Carnitas Street Tacos. Since I'm from the West Coast, I'm used to small corn tortillas and very traditional Mexican Carnitas. The food here was fresh & hot, but I wouldn't consider it very traditional. They served tortilla chips with beans and queso fresco sprinkled on top as an appetizer, no salsa. The tortillas were larger than street size, and the Carnitas was not rendered, just cooked pork, which was dry and flavorless.
