Been riding the Boulder Dash since the first year it opened back in 2000, and to this day I still never get tired of it. The track isn't very elaborate, and doesn't have a super high chain lift drop, but by no means does that mean it's not fun. This coaster is a prime example you don't need a ridiculously high drop to get the adrenaline flowing. It has just the right amount of hills and banks to mix things up throughout the duration. Whoever designed the track knew what they were doing. Set right on the side of Mount Southington, you get such a cool rush going through the trees.
I will say this right now, this coaster is INTENSE I'd rate it a 9 out of 10 for intensity. Right from the drop it maintains a ridiculous speed for nearly the entire track. Every hill you go over or bank YOU WILL FEEL IT. It knocks you around like noones buisness, but that's what I like about it It's just overall a crazy blast they really showed what a GOOD wooden coaster is. Definitely deserving of the Golden Ticket Award for best Wooden Coaster in the country year after year.
It sometimes has a bad rap because of the death of a landscaper who was struck and killed by a train during a test run years ago while he was trimming some bushes right under the track, but that was a freak accident and had nothing to do with the coaster itself. Just very unfortunate miscommunication between the ride testers and the grounds...
Read moreBoulder Dash often shows up on lists of the top 5 or top 10 wooden coasters worldwide, and it is not hard to see why. It is a wooden roller coaster built on the side of a mountain, with the largest hills following the natural terrain. The first half is an experience of hurtling through the woods at high speed, below treetop level, with rocks and branches flying by on either side. The real surprise, though, is the second half, the low bunny hills along the lake--after the screaming turnaround at the far end, the ride maintains much of its speed tearing through this section, and the negative g-forces are intense.
Since the first half of it is nearly invisible from the ground, non-coaster-freaks may not realize what a monster this is and bite off more than they can chew. For thrill-seekers it's a must-ride.
Riding it again in 2022, the coaster seems to have gotten rougher than it was the last time I rode it, despite retracking and reprofiling efforts--there was enough jackhammering that to me it was detracting from the experience. Here's hoping this can...
Read moreRode in the back, middle, then front, all rows are quite rough but this ride is truly legendary! The lift hill up the mountain is incredible, and the relentless hills throughout the layout make this a wild ride from beginning to end! A father and his young daughter sitting a few rows up during my back row ride also commented on how much they liked the ride. This is absolutely a destination coaster for enthusiasts, I saw this first hand during my visit, as I spoke with quite a few in line and was also told how far people come to ride this from the op when I mentioned being from Ohio. All in all well worth the price of admission for a long time to come! Please continue to do some much needed upkeep on this ride as it would be terrible to lose such a great ride experience. Overall in my top 10 of rides to this point, and easily one of the...
