We visited in September so there were no staff working the day we went to Pemaquid Beach. The snack bar and ticket office were closed and there were no lifeguards. The beach had not been raked so it had the usual seaweeds and shells along the high tide line. The beach area was compact but there was plenty of room for the visitors and dunes and private property were clearly marked. Though seagulls are numerous and aggressive on Maine beaches (and worse at Pemaquid) we saw few while we were there and assume that they come when the snack bar is open. This is a great option for all ages with handicapped parking close to the beach and a gentle ramp from there to the sand. Bring your chairs and drinks and enjoy the beach for playing, swimming, or watching the birds and boats pass by. While Pemaquid is not as big as Popham or Reid State Park it is also not as crowded and access to the beach from the parking lot is far easier at Pemaquid. This is recommended for families and especially for folks with mobility issues. ...
Read moreStaff is rude, unlocked the bathroom doors and walked in while in the family bathroom without knocking, my daughters had to change in public while family bathroom was occupied for over 30 minutes because they locked the women's bathroom, when I tried to open the women's bathroom door I accidentally pulled it off hinge (I'm not a strong women) and they stated it was closed, and said that I just broke the lock. I explained it was an accident and thought the door was jammed (it was locked on the inside) I explained to the worker that I have three daughters that need to get changed to which her response was "isn't the family bathroom open?" I told her no it wasn't, someone's been in there a while. I also am confused, it's 2 in the afternoon not 5, don't they close at 5? Overall beach is beautiful, but super disappointed by my treatment from the workers. I apologized...
Read moreRUDE attendant George Laday today!
My wife comes to this beach regularly and has used her veteran pass. Today was our first time this year and when I handed our two veteran passes to George he proceeded to berate me loudly that this was not a state park and they do not accept them. My wife explained that she used them last year, to which he exclaimed, she did not, effectively calling her a liar! I stated that it was possible she used them times he was not here and he said nope, I am always here!
I don't care about paying, I care about rude people and this individual was unnecessarily rude and provacative, declaring my wife a liar and decreeing it was impossible to have ever entered using veteran passes!!! I'm sure there were other attendants that allowed her to use her pass.
I will be following up to file a...
