I'm a Tina Turner fan so I wanted to see the school house she went to that houses some of her dresses and things. It's not much to see, but it's free and the center itself showcases other historical things about the cotton industry, the Hatchie River life, and the many musicians blues and jazz that came from the area and some of their guitars and such, even a couple Elvis things. Their is a small gift shop with some Tina Turner shirts and novelty items, I wasn't impressed enough with the designs on the shirts to buy one, which actually bummed me out, I was also hoping to see a few of her books for sale like: I Tina or Tina Turner My Love Story, but they didn't have them, they had some other historical books on influential people. The people there are very nice, and again it's free so worth going. Leave a donation. If their shirts were better looking I think they could make a little...

The people working here are absolutely amazing. Some of the friendliest people I met on my trip. I actually spent a half hour talking to them about photography and electronics. (Oct 2015)

They walked the floor and pulled brochures, magazines and maps, marking all sorts of things that might make for good photography. They pulled other people from the office in, and asked them for suggestions as well.

I felt like these people were honestly invested in helping me make my photography trip to Tennessee a good one. After leaving I regretted not getting the woman's name who helped me, as I wanted to gift her a photo if I happened to capture something amazing.

If your looking for travel advice, I highly suggest this as a place to stop. The staff here are highly knowledgeable...

What a wonderful visit...we were in Sleepy John Estes 2 room shotgun home AND Tina Turner's one room school house. The center has incredible pictures and memorabilia of Tina Turner, including displays of her incredible gowns! It's well worth the visit, just for Tina's memorabilia, and if you don't know Sleepy John Estes...look him up and listen to his music! What legends! And they are from Haywood County Tennessee. Check out Brownsville Tennessee! What an interesting place! Don't miss Livingston's Diner, just off the Square, in the old US Post Office! If the Mustard Seed resale store is open; nothing over $20, and great home goods and clothing! Check it out...

A wonderful place to visit. Much of Tina Turner's outfits worn are on display and the actual schoolhouse in which she was educated in Nutbush (with yourself is just a rural community not far away). You can learn not only watch about her, but also so many other blues, c&w, and hillbilly Rock musicians from West Tennessee. The hosts here are incredibly nice. Whether you're in need of a stretch, or bathroom break, or just want see a wonderful small museum complex during your travels, this hidden gem is and it's right off I-40. Lots of food places all around this place. Easy to get into and out of

A really nice place to stop in to gain a bit of history on several TN great music legends - Blues and the great Tina Turner who is in a class of her own! There too is the historical information about the beautiful West Tennessee area that includes everything back from the Civil War Era, Agriculture (cotton), and of course the History of the Hatchie River...so, if you are traveling along I-40 and feel the need to stop or just want to venture outside of the city for a little history on a road trip...stop in @ Ext 56 and spend some time Tina's old school house or walking through the museum.

We decided to stop and take a break on our long road trip and where better than a free museum? The place was spotless, the staff very helpful, and a diverse mix of exhibits on everything from cotton to the rich musical history of the area and not to forget the star of the show: Tina Turner. The school she attended as a child has been moved on premises as well as the modest home of Sleep John Estes. Lots of glittery clothes, shoes, and awards for Ms. Turner and quite a bit of information on other musical folk from the area.
