Historic Buchanan Swinging Bridge — Attraction in Buchanan

Well, the bridge for sure swings! Happened to stop on Saturday afternoon when there were high winds. My cousin and I made it half way across then a big wind gust came and we turned into scaredy cats. Hopefully we didn’t annoy the neighbors too much with all the hootin and hollerin we were doing. I almost didn’t get this picture because I thought my phone was going to blow right out of my hand. It was definitely worth the stop and maybe I’ll go back sometime to go the entire way across. Read the sign about the history too, very interesting stuff. We were on the way to Natural Bridge or we would have checked out more of the town. Small parking lot but there were spots open. You could probably park on the street there too. There was a bbq place down the street across from the gas station. I was hungry but my cousin did not seem to care. The gas station attendant said it was good. We’re driving across the country - NJ to California, and we try to stop every 3-4 hrs to stretch our legs and see the country. The Swinging Bridge is a great stop! The town is full of interesting old buildings, and the bridge has lots of history. We walked across without any trouble. Super fun, and the day was gorgeous. Highly recommend! Accessing the bridge is tricky for anyone with a wheelchair/walker or difficulty walking. One end opens to the street side, and the walkway is narrow, and the bridge slopes down some. Beautiful quiet. A small town of Old. River of late Spring leaving the Mountains cold and calm.

The river Water as still as glass. A solitary paddler kayak breaking the reflection with ripples traveling the width of the river.

Up high the Swinging bridge awaits Hanging, seeing, and watching all those who drive by but do not accept its challenge.

Smiles and grins on a simple walk Sun warming the skin with my beautiful perfect companion with which to share it all . Life is good here at Buchanan Swinging Bridge.
