I grew up on this lake my most of my life. I think That this is one of the best lakes in the state for fishing and water sport's. Even if you didn't ever live on this lake it's easy to navigate it for fishing. ( :

It's due to all the traffic and people drinking & boating on the lake. At least they have Many DNR Officers on the lake and they have a "ZERO Tolerance" for B.U.I. "Boating Under The Influence."
If you enjoy fishing then this is the lake for you. There are so many different species of fish in Lake Lanier. There are Large Mouth Bass to some very BIG Stripers. There's also Hybrid White Bass & Crappie and also some colorful Warmouth that are a Bass/Brim Hybrid fish. They are a blast to catch on any ultralight rig.
There are plenty of Sunfish and Bluegill for the 'little ones' & adult's to enjoy catching, and they sure love eating crickets. 🦗 There is also plenty of natural and different bait fish that are easily caught with a "Cast Net." History: is it haunted? No Yes there was a African American boom town it was call oscarville but back in the early 1910s or there about. 2 white women were attacked and to African Americans were blamed and well this is the hight of Jim crow so you know what happened. After the exodus barely anyone lived there except a few families on farms. Then the army corps of engineers bought the land (it's debated of it was purchased for its actual value) but after that the dam was created and the lake was filled. Most homes and buildings were destroyed and graves were relocated. It's sad what happened but no the lake isn't haunted.
