One of my favorite hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains. This particular trail section is fairly unique in the area, and provides a much more challenging way to access the always interesting Topanga Lookout (versus coming in from the much busier trail entry from Stunt/Saddle Peak). Start at the Stunt Road Trail entry to the Calabasas Peak Motorway, and climb uphill/North towards Red Rock. The Topanga Lookout trailhead is unmarked/unsigned, but is 20 paces south of where West Red Rock Road dead-ends into Calabasas Peak Motorway. The first 1/2 mile of the Lookout Trail is a fairly moderate climb that leads to a large meadow. Once past the meadow, you'll start a steep climb up a razorback ridge-line trail that zig-zags back and forth across the ridge, ultimately leading to the Lookout platform. Lots of great vistas, hoodoos and scenery along the way (including a rusted out, 50's era pickup truck hanging off the side of the mountain). You can push on past the Lookout 1 mile to Stunt Road, which provides further access to Stunt Ranch, Saddle Peak and the Backbone Trail.
