If you have binoculars and a thirst for bird watching, this is the place! There are a lot of signs indicating where specific birds tend to be nested. And it's true! It's like a zoo but without cages! It is a very chill hike, very dry even when it is 65F. Cloudy but still makes for plenty of sunshine. So expect this place to get hot if you come in the summer! Dog friendly! You'll find other people bringing their dogs. There's also one port-o-potty at the very beginning of the trail. There is a little stream that can become larger with heavier rain. Read moreGreat place to start off for several hikes/trails. Nice spring-fed creek in the bowl, good port-a-potty at the trailhead, and most trails are not too busy. The preserve itself can be cool on a hot day, due to being in a canyon, abundant shade, and the creek. Other trails are more exposed and hence, hotter.
For great views and rock scrambling, cross the road to the Calabasas Peak trail, behind the pipe gate. Several great options from this trailhead, with incredible views and rock spines with caves to explore, and a back way into Red Rock Canyon.
