Wonderful experience! I remember visiting Ancient Peaks Winery years ago when it was only a tasting room. Today, the tasting room has expanded, and now includes a full restaurant with a great selection of options, as well as the wines to taste or by the glass. The wines are well made, and there are a sizable selection of different varieties (including now three Italian varieties) at a wide range of price points for all budgets. The tasting room is welcoming and friendly, and the service has always been exceptional. Santa Margarita is just 15 minutes from San Luis Obispo, but the little town seems like a throwback to another era, and you can sit outside on the patio and enjoy the small town feel. Our server shared with us the interesting history of the land and soils of the Santa Margarita Ranch, including fossilized oyster shells that help deliver some of the characteristic flavors of the wines we tasted. Definitely...
Read moreWe bought a bottle of Ancient Peak at store in Cambria. We enjoyed it so much we decided to visit and do a tasting. It's winery and cafe which was nice since we had our teen with us. We sat on the patio and enjoyed lunch and wine. It is right off the road so it was easy to find. The patio is shaded and has private fencing. Savannah was very attentive and knowledgeable. The wine tasting menu is unique as it has which kind of soil each wine is grown in with the descriptions. They have a lot of wine for purchase with many price points. We bought a rose', some whites, and a Cabernet Sauvignon. We don't usually buy Rose' but it is perfect for the warm summer. The food is elevated. We shared a Fig/Brie Burger and our son had the tri trip sandwich. All of it including the fries were items we would...
Read moreWe stopped in for lunch and ended up doing a wine tasting that lasted several hours and took home about 6 bottles- what a blast! Four adults and 3 kids can be a handful but the service was great. Kelby was attentive and sweet and even took the time to speak Spanish to our kids. He was very knowledgeable about all the varietals- the merlot and rose being our favorites. For lunch we got the potato and leak soup, the chicken sandwiches, BLT and hummus plates all very tasty. Kelby was great with getting the kids burgers and grilled cheeses and helping split up ice cream even though there was no kids menu. The bill was reasonable considering there was 7 of us there for several hours- and this ended up being the highlight of our trip. Would definitely go again if we are ever back in...
