ALA staff is RACIST!! We were visiting family, who are members of ALA, this past weekend. The day before we arrived they had gone down to the beach area and witnessed a crowded beach with nobody wearing face masks. However, the day that me and my mixed race family went with them my two sons were immediately approached as we were walking into the beach area and were aggressively told that they needed masks or had to leave! All while we watched other families and groups sitting ON the beach with no face masks. So we continued to the beach and set up our area acknowledging social distance guidelines and covered our faces with shirts. We were told this was unacceptable and were the only group that they continued to harass until we were forced to leave. During this time my sons had started a game of catch when another woman that was visiting with her family, also not wearing a mask, made it a point to move from her spot and seat herself behind one of my sons where she proceeded to complain that he was getting too close and needed to be careful. Overall, ALA staff and ALA members made it perfectly clear that black people are not welcome on their premises!! Absolutely...
Read moreToday around 4:50 me and my family were HARASSED by a middle aged white woman with a ponytail that worked there. She consistently kept asking for our membership card, when we showed her our card she said it was fake and didn’t belong there. I consistently tried to deescalate the situation but she kept on persisting for us to leave. I would also like to add that me and my family are people of color and my father has a Spanish accent. We also saw that we were the only people approached. We decided to leave because she said she would call the sheriff and give us a ticket. She also made us walk a COMPLETELY different direction from where we parked causing us to walk one mile to our car. Would not recommend to someone who isn’t white or is white passing. 0/10 experience. Will be telling other club members. HOPEFULLY she is fired after this horrible experience, praying that no other people of color are discriminated how...
Read moreRented an Airbnb and tried to get to the beach, but were turned away by the staff since we were short term renters (STR). They asked us to walk on the trail and access the lake from between the piers.
Anyhow when we got situated between two random piers off the trail, a lady from one of the beach villas came over with her pitbull off the leash. It chased my mom who is terrified of dogs, so when we asked her to leash it, she went off on us, asking to see our ALA card.
The sense of entitlement was off the charts, presumably a normal behaviour for most ALA members who feel BnB'rs don't deserve access to the lake.
Anyways, we deescalated the situation and the rest of the time at the beach was relaxing.
The fact that the whole lake access is privatized, with no public access is just appalling. I don't know how this is allowed in CA, a warning to everyone on what happens with...
