We walked a mile and a half from our vehicle carrying a blow up paddle board down the 400 foot descent gravel trail to get to the beach. We paddled to Fannette Island and walked up the stone stairs to the old tea house. Beautiful views of the bay from here. We probably got 15 minutes to ourselves here before others showed up. If your on a power boat you won’t be able to get close enough to the shore because of underwater rocks to dock, so you’ll have to swim to shore. Kayak/SUP rental closed now for the season. Bring water and snacks. There are no services at end of trail except for pit toilets. There are streams near edge of trail for cooling off as going back up is in direct sun half way up. Parking is mostly based on when you arrive and luck! Plan on walking from far away!

Before going here I would recommend visiting the vikingholm due to them being directly related to each other history wise, but if your just looking for adventure I would arrive early to the beach so that you can secure your spot in line to rent a kayak, the line builds up quick. The island itself is quite interesting and provides some beautiful visuals of the surrounding area.

It is a stone building on top of the Fannette island, the only island in Emerald bay of Lake Tahoe. It was built in 1929. Now it is a ruin with no roof. You can hike up if you can arrive by private boat to the island but the island has no pier! You can see this Fannette island and this stone Tea House ruins from the Inspirstion Point viewing area on the hill on highway 89.

We hiked the 1 mile down Vikingsholm trail mixed to the Rubicon traial with two young barely teenagers to view the beach and pier and the Tea House. The view of the Tea House island was nice, and the beach was nice. You must have a good zoom on your camera to view the Tea house, and when we zoomed in, we saw people walking from the bottom to the top into the Tea House. Although the Tea House was not too spectacular, the hike down, then up was a great stair climbing memory to have. So to have a relaxing, not hiking view, we rented a 20ft Reinke boat and viewed it close up in Emerald Bay and the Lake Tahoe waters. Of the two, the kids enjoyed the...

Cool piece of history on the island in a stunning bay. Clear blue-green water that stays relatively calm because of the surrounding ridgelines creates an almost surreal environment. There are multiple paths to the top, the easiest being on the west side facing into the bay. If you want a bit of a challenge, go to the west side's shear rock face and go for a climb. Well worth the visit of you can get...
