Vikingsholm Trail (Bottom) — Attraction in South Lake Tahoe

Spectacular view of Emerald Bay. In and out steep hike down and back up. Parking lot fills quickly. Great views of the bay from the overlook near the parking lot. Port-a-let toilets at parking lot are overflowing and seldom cleaned, can smell from 10 feet away before the day warms up, gets worse as the day warms. Pit toilet structure at the bottom of the wall down is much cleaner. Nice beach at the bottom, great way to see the bay, large mature trees and a peaceful setting. It was a beautiful hike with beautiful views! Make sure you wear good shoes (no flip-flops). It’s a ways to the bottom - took about 20 minutes or so.

The beaches down there aren’t really “lay out a towel and enjoy” type of beaches, but a very nice place to take food and enjoy a picnic and take in the views.

The hike up was obviously more strenuous but...

Didn't even know this existed until recently! The hike is really steep but its an interesting visit thats right by the lake. Under construction as of August but definitely come with time to get on one of the tours. Bring a picnic to hang by the water after and look...
