May 7th 2017 - we arrived on a colder than usual day, its only 65 degrees F at 4:15pm. Dog friendly. It's best to reserve online (recreation.gov?) or call for faster service and info. Seriously, just call. They will help you put together 2 stays at the same time so you can explore the pacific coast highway. At most, you'll be 50yds from a bathroom and dumpster. Each campsite has a fire pit and picnic table and a roughly 30ft parking spot. You can usually buy firewood 4-5 pcs for $7. If they're sold out, there's more 2 miles down the road at the next park. The scenery is gorgeous. You'll fall asleep to the waves and wake up with the beach in front of you and dozens of hiking trails behind you.

Thornhill Broome Beach: Malibu’s Untamed Coastal Whisper

Thornhill Broome Beach feels like a secret whispered between the ocean and the cliffs—a wild, windswept stretch that somehow manages to be both rugged and welcoming. Nestled just off the Pacific Coast Highway, it’s one of Malibu’s less trodden paths, offering a raw and unfiltered coastal experience that’s increasingly rare in this polished part of California.

The access is humble—a narrow staircase down from the highway—but what you find below feels worth every step. The beach is a broad, sandy canvas, flanked by rocky outcrops and backed by steep hills that catch the sunset like molten gold. The waves here are lively, drawing surfers who crave less crowded breaks and a bit more edge.

Thornhill Broome doesn’t have the amenities of bigger beaches—no snack bars, no lifeguard towers glaring from the sand. Instead, it offers space to roam, sea air thick with salt and sage, and a kind of solitude that feels like a rare commodity. It’s perfect for beachcombers hunting tide pools, couples seeking quiet corners, or anyone who just wants to listen to the ocean without a soundtrack.

The vibe is unpretentious and a little wild. Driftwood logs double as benches, and footprints are quickly erased by the tide. Evening walks here feel like a meditation—the crashing waves, the cool breeze, the endless horizon all inviting you to pause and reset.

Rating: 8.9/10 — Thornhill Broome Beach is Malibu’s quiet rebel: rugged, beautiful, and refreshingly untouched by the usual...

Love this place, cheap, beautiful, concerning when the waves hit the road. Clean, friendly and great fires at night. What a place, internet spotty north end excellent south end from spots 18-01, full crunch. Waves breaking all night long, what a place. I've been here three times in the last year. Just can't say enough. Drive in back out. We use a motorhome, so we are cozy here, lots of tents. BTW the spots are 45' long parallel park, beach at your doorstep, Bring your car but don't tow it in, 31' restrictions, disconnect and drive it in. Anyone bad mouths this...
