Mystery Hill is a nostalgic place for me with fond childhood memories. My sentimental memory of it is vague yet has aroused my curiosity for the past 45 years or so to relive. I particularly wanted to share this with my family (and my 11- and 10-year-old children). We were the only guests on the premises throughout the tour. The attendant who gave us the tour was friendly and knowledgeable, but his tour delivery seemed to be a little out of his element. The tour takes you through a handful of rooms that attempt to wow with the apparent defiance of gravity. It is more suited for young children who are naive about the physics of awkwardly balancing yourself as you traverse room to room in a makeshift walk-through strategically structured to give the illusion that your slanted upright posture (due to maneuvering on a hill) is mysteriously defying gravity. On the grounds, there are various unrelated life-sized statues of Frankenstein's head, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and The Mummy lending an element of spookiness to the non-scarry tour. The tour ends with a Ward Hill's Strange Oddities sideshow exhibit filled with photos, mannequins, and taxidermy mounts and tales of historical human and animal freaks of nature. There is also a quaint souvenir gift shop. The tour is entertaining but overpriced for being so short. It's a must-see to satisfy your curiosity but you likely won't return, unless your young captivated children request it. The memory of it just might be as long-lasting for them as it was for me as a child after all these years. It's an overall three-star for me as an adult but possibly a five-star for...
Read moreThis place is terrible at advertising. Seen an ad in the local paper but it didnt have any words, just 2 pictures. We called but just got a recording. I tried so hard to find information online but I just couldnt figure out what this place was about. Finally I went there in person and asked what it was. The person basically said it was a house that has mysterious stuff happening inside of it.
So im thinking to myself "ok, this is definitely a tourist trap but I wanted something to do with my girlfriend so I paid... $8 a person? You gotta be kidding me.
Basically the house is built on an angle and has stuff built in to mess with your head a bit. Its not the worst thing in the world, its awesome for little kids I guess.
Its really great for taking pictures. The nice staff will take pictures for you as they give the tour. You can post the pictures on facebook or wherever to mess with your friends and make them scratch their head in confusion.
If it were no more than $5 a person, I wouldnt have a single complaint. I would say that for the two of us, we were done with the tour in about 20 minutes. When we both got back in the car, we were laughing so hard and saying how silly it was. But I guess that would be like me going to a Chinese restaurant and being disappointed that they dont serve cheeseburgers. This place (I assume) is aimed towards children.
So overall, if you are an adult, you may not get a whole lot from it but your children will most likely love it. Not giving it 5 stars because the price...
Read moreThis place is lots of fun. There are many vacation attractions that are fancy, fun, and expensive. This one is unique in that it has a "homemade" quality that others don't. It is not fancy, is a little rough around the edges, but novel. My grandson and I made a day trip from Birminham, MI and we loved Mystery Hill. (Sadly, we were the only visitors there, although some came as we left.) The experiece is really cool...it will weird you out as you walk through the house. Our guide gave us all the time we wanted at each "station". You will get some great photos that look fantastic: I have one of Scott standing on the edge of a table leaning back over thin air...and not falling. Admission charge is small, I think it was $7. The unique quality of this attraction is what makes it memorable. You will only need about 30-40 minutes in total. ...
