I really dont recommend visiting the Cape Charles area. We came down for this "off the beaten path" trip from New York, hoping to be pleasantly surprised. But there's a number of phony speed traps (especially around Eastville) targeting out-of-towners. I was 100% driving normal and the speed of traffic (which was about 10mph over the signs) - it was a busy day on the road and I was surrounded by other cars and couldn't even have sped faster (or slowed down) than traffic if I wanted to. Cop sees NY plates and decided to pull me over and charge $190 for a ticket - just a scam to bring in local money. Last time I'll be visiting the area as a tourist for sure. As the CEO of a travel company, I do not recommend visiting unless you want to be targeted for "revenue generation" tickets, and I'll be sharing that with the...

Nice little museum at the start of town. Super friendly volunteers showing that southern hospitality. Being the former power station it still contains one of the Diesel engines that was used. The real highlight was having the staff "run" the engine, cut aways let you see all the functions of this massive machine. A hand built steam locomotive model can also be "run" and was fascinating to see in action. A display of the bay bridge tunnel used to explain the mind boggling amount of work that went into it puts a new perspective on your thoughts when crossing it. Well worth the hour spent there, no fee, got...

Absolutely do not recommend, drove by and decided to stop in without knowing opening and closing times but the sign said open and it was appr. 3.45 in the afternoon. Walked around the domated Bloxom station first and if I had donated that building I'd be disgusted. At least keep the outside clean and nice. Soon as we starting walking around a guy came out of the main building and changed the open sign to closed. If he had any decency he would have walked over to us to say that they would be closing soon but no, he just disappeared back in the building. So we just left and will therefore...

We visited on a Sunday and almost didn’t stay because the person opening the museum arrive almost 15 minutes late. The museum is a gem. It is small but includes a lot about the history of Cape Charles. There were displays of artifacts and books that had lots of pictures and information. There was also a fairly long video about the building of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. They also have a display modeling the bridge and tunnel system. It was small but well worth the visit. They also have a few cases of items/books for sale. They only take cash!

I did not expect this museum to be as interesting as it was! Its an old powerhouse and one of the giant diesel engines is still inside. If you're lucky, they will run it in demo mode for you too! So much history of the region packed in one building from the railroad, telephones, the ferry that used to operate, and even the history of the formation of the Chesapeake Bay. Many other things on display too. Fun for all ages!

I love these little museums, and really appreciate the volunteers who run them. This is a must if you are interested in the bay bridge tunnel, into railroads, or just want to kill some time before stopping at the many restaurants nearby. The big Diesel engine was cool.
