Like many others, I picked this place to watch the 2024 eclipse. It has green grass, involved volunteers, and was just far enough off the beaten path to have lots of like-minded folks with children to enjoy the event. The grounds were well maintained and there was no mud. Great shade but plenty of open views of the sky. The park had plenty of history displayed and on plaques to enjoy during the hours-long event. The day long gap in the weather provided plenty of rain leading up to the event, and the good site drainage and maintenance really made for a great experience with near full sun the whole day. I would suggest going in the middle of the day and be aware of your surroundings. The fort itself is very small and unless you are specifically interested in history, it would likely not be of interest. Although I thought it was interesting, the kids did not.
