True-Que — Restaurant in Cape Girardeau

This place is a SMALL building in an open lawn. Found it on Google reviews while looking for a good BBQ place in Cape Girardeau. The town was a day stop on a Mississippi River cruise. My wife and I decided to just walk around town on our own to sightsee and grab lunch. As is my habit when I'm out of town I look for a memorable place. Not necessarily fancy, stylish or expensive just delicious local fare. Here on the Delta that would be BBQ. My search turned up True-Que out on the edge of the city center about a 20 or 30 minute walk from the dock. It's funky (as all truly good BBQ places should be). Very funky You order at a walk up window and eat at one of the 2 tables or take away. They seemed to do a steady takeaway business and the phone orders were steady too. Having read the reviews for the pork steak that's what I got with a side of fries and Mac & cheese. Momma got the rib sandwich with a side of sauce. Fries and Mac were nothing special but the meat was spectacular. Really....

Two tiny buildings w/ iron bars and two cement umbrella tables w/ integral seats. Hence the low "atmosphere" score. Don't expect table service. Basically, a take away, or 'To-Go' spot that seems to rock the Q. However stoked I was for Turkey, it isn't available every day (!@$%). We only had a Brisket Sandwich & Smoked Wings. Excellent on both counts. No pork in the beans, but a little beef. What is not to like? Like table service? Well, a handwash station... but this isn't that kinda place. I've been meaning to stop here for some time now, and finally today I had the chance.They had a great deal in pork steak/chop, but I had a hankering for come pulled pork. Let me tell ya..... This here is what BBQ is all about. I told my wife, "this tastes like eating with old friends on the back porch at home." DELICIOUS is the word that comes to mind, and service+value, can't beat that!
