After the one year review of my bilateral knee replacements in Castle Rock, I thought I'd go and take a look at Challenge Hill before heading back to Colorado Springs. I wanted to do the hike at the end of the month, but while standing at the foot of the Hill and watching others climb and come down, I figured I might just be able to do it. I climbed at a slow place, not knowing if it was going to be too much for me. Several people came and went ans urged me on. I reached the top, took a few pictures of the spectacular view and started my descent. The trail heading down was nice, but because of the gravel-like areas, I had to be careful not to slip, which did not happen. Remember, I have two new knees, so I am certain this would not be a concern for most people. Later, after reaching the Springs, I called a friend of mine who also has had knee surgery and told him that I would like to climb the Hill with him. We will be doing it at the end of the month. In addition, I spoke with my niece. We will be climbing the Hill of September 5th. Read moreGreat development- discovered by accident when my go-to hike at Rock Park was closed. The trails here are easy and you never get to far from the parking lot. Now about challenge hill- sorry, it’s hard. I’m in good shape for my age and all the poseurs reviewing this as “a fun little warm up on your way to the Manitou Incline (I did it three times!”) are doing the average Joe a disservice. 200 giant steps to the top is hard work if you aren’t regularly doing this type of workout. I laughed at the warning sign at the base that basically said this ascent might kill me- around the 110th step I found myself sucking wind and agreeing with it. Great outdoor challenge for some, definitely not...
Read moreThe "incline" at this park is great for beginners amd kids. 200 steps (vs 2700 steps at.Manitou incline) so its good for conditioning. All ages friendly. Having a soccer/football field, all kinds of kids playgrounds (free and good quality, rain or shine 7/24) Not very far from Denver. Castle.rock also has bunch of outlets for someone whoe is not in to sports. But i am sure kids will have a blast in thisnpark. I am actually recommending bringing your litlle ones with you. They also have zip lines for any one who is 70lbs and more, but for smaller ones there are PLENTY of climbing and playong yards. They also have a NINJA COURSE which for hard core folks. Something that they show on TV. Its...
