If you are a birder, like a nice hike this is a lovely area. We saw or identified 21 species. Definitely download the map if you a new to the area. Yesterday We started at the parking lot (180 spots) and onto the Cull Canyon Loop Trail and were rewarded with all manner or birds foraging. The foot bridge is a great place to just listen or take pictures. There is a ranger station and they had just painted the picnic tables. Major problem with wasps. There was a sandpit for volleyball, so bring your equipment! This end is next to Columbia trail and the Garin to Lake Chabot route for a good hike (near Heyer Road). Poison oak abounds, so stay on the trail. And, please take out your trash. I saw cans bottles and cups, but only staff could get to them. There was enough water that I was expecting to see some ducks. This is my pitch to get rid of single use cups; plates & forks and invest in reusables. Nature will thank you.

Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area is a great spot to bring young kids for a day out! The lake was clean and enjoyable, and I really appreciated how many lifeguards were on duty keeping an eye on swimmers. The entry fee was very reasonable. The covered wooden canopy areas are first come, first served, so arrive early if you want shade. Otherwise, bring your own lawn chairs, beach blankets/mats, umbrellas, or even your own canopy and you’ll be set. There are BBQ grills available on-site (nice bonus), but note that personal BBQs and alcohol are not allowed. Overall, a fun, family-friendly place to relax and enjoy the outdoors!

do not go if you have a service dog! i came in and had to show my service dog paperwork. which is illegal to even ask for. they let me in and told me to make sure my dog didn’t go in the sand or water. i understood and kept my dog off the sand and out of the water. i was sitting on the curb, with my dog on my lap. a worker came and told me to move to the other side of the road. it was very inconsiderate since i was with my family. i was not on the sand or in the water. i tried to ask why since the lady in the front told me i could sit there. she was very dismissive with her responses and walked away while we talked. they are rude to people with disabilities who need service dogs. i decided to leave since the whole situation made me...
