This place was magnificent. It had everything you could ask for in a days hike. The drive was about 2 hours. Easy driving on curvy backroads There are two different entrances to the reserve. It depends on what you want to experience. The 1st entrance was closest to the Indian Mounds. The mounds are impressive and thought to be sacred Indian burial grounds. There are about 30 stairs to get to the mounds overlook trail. There is a little pioneer shack at the entrance, hosting a staff of pioneer people. Parking and entrance is free. Plenty of parking. Restrooms are in the parking lot. The trails all connect between the mounds, the gorge and waterfall. It's the ease of access to the mounds at the 1st entrance or the gorge and waterfall at the 2nd entrance. They are less than a mile from each other. The paths were not difficult, not paved. Formations of rock cliffs and caves were vast and each different from the next. Bridges to cross, picnic tables, several trails, and creeks along the way. Dogs welcome. There are no stores or places to get snacks so bring some. The gorge and waterfall area was very nice, clean, plenty of free parking, covered picnic tables, and path to waterfall is paved. This place rocks. I left the park about 7:30 pm ish. Warning, on my drive home deer were flying out of the fields and family of deer on the side of the road. The roads are curvy and not well lit. That was a little scary. I felt like Mario trying to get past the obstacles. Remember don't litter. I ask everyone to bring one shopping bag to fill with litter you see in the parks. If we all remove our trash and pick up 1 extra bag worth of existing trash we could have the planet...
Read moreWe started here to make a trip to the waterfall. It is a good starting point. The Indian Mound is cool to see once. The rest of the trail is cool. After you come back from the Indian Mound find the Rim Trail and take it all the way to the falls. The falls are awesome. On your way back take the Lower Gorge trail. On this trail there is a "cave" (like Old Man's Cave in Hocking Hills) along the creek. It is a pretty easy trail all together. I think round trip it was 3.3 miles long. The only reason i didnt give it 5 stars is because the trails at times are hard to follow. Even the entrance was a little challenging as there were no signs at the end of the paved road and it looked like it dead ended into...
Read moreThe falls present a nice view but the rest of the park is very poorly maintained. The trails are overgrown throughout and poison ivy abounds. There's a beautiful log cabin at the far end of the park but it's locked up so one really can't appreciate the architecture. Signage along the hiking paths is nearly non-existent and again the ones that are there are in bad condition. There also needs to be warnings that the trail is rough and considered difficult. Most of the mile hike from the falls to the cabin is chocked full of thick roots which makes...
