My review of: Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center
If you can't afford the BIG water parks of the Phoenix Valley, Try this amazing public pool. At $1.00 per child and $2.26 per adult, it was very affordable. We spent 5 hours here and it was incredible. This pool is surrounded by desert landscaping. You wouldn't know it was there except for the tall water slides peeking up over the mesquite trees. I saw a fluffy cotton tail rabbit scamper across the lane leading into the parking area. The ticket window is right outside and then the Men's & Women's entrances are at opposites sides leading to enclosed, air conditioned locker room, toilets, showers, and in the women'ts side a changing table. It's nice to know that they thought of everyone.
Upon entry to the pool area the diving area and lane swimming are on the far left. Nicely separated from the little swimmers notice by a hedge of deck chairs & shade cover. Few children would want to wander over there with the wonder's to be found at the the right side of this aquatic center. The kid pool starts at 0 depth, then goes down to 2 foot 6 inches. There is a huge blue bucket that pours water down onto the roof of a play structure that then splatters/flattens the eagerly waiting children below. All kinds of wheels, leavers and ropes allow control of the jets of water that shoot out in all direction and manner. Climb up into the play structure and ride down 2 kiddy slides. Pure fun.
A rope separates the kids side from the leisure pool which is 4 foot deep. A whirl pool circles around in one corner of the leisure pool. Children line up for their turn to be swirled around while a lifeguard is ever present to give them a helping hand out. The 2 tall slides have a 42 inch rider policy. You climb up and over the lazy river ride by a bridge to reach the slides. The slide down is pretty good.
There is no extra charge to get a tube and get in the lazy river for a cool ride. Just grab a tube from the pile, go to the entrance point and wait your turn. This moving body of water winds under the slides, and goes through two water hazards. My favorite is the brigade of dumping buckets. That was a lot of fun!
For little children that can't take lots of splashing there is a splash pad with 3 huge brightly colored spray arches and other fun splash pad toys.
There is a lot of shaded seating. Around the outer edges is an artificial turf section where you can bring your own easy-up shade tent and set it up. There is a vendor that sells pizza and shaved ice near the corner of the whirl pool area. And there are just a few picnic benches.
This pool is so...
Read moreMy seven year old loves the water and this place is amazing. With a splash area, a play pool, two water slides, a lazy river, two diving boards, lap swim, and a full depth swimming pool we can be entertained for hours. It's really a small water park. It gets crowded, especially on discount days, but we've never felt overwhelmed or had to wait more than 8 or 9 minutes for anything.
The lazy river is the craziest. My daughter prefers to ride with me despite being an excellent swimmer. She's short for her age and can't reach the bottom while up in the tube so she has no control while on the lazy river. It can be a little overwhelming for her while being bounced around by more aggressive tubers.
I don't have any problems. I am tall enough to put my feet down and strong enough to fight through the crowd of tubes.
Aside from the lazy river, she can do everything independently. We often run into height restrictions at other pools, but she's tall enough for everything here. (Short kids everywhere, rejoice!)
There is a decent amount of shade. There are lots of chairs and I've not seen anything but courtesy from other patrons. The lifeguards are some of the best I've seen. They're well trained and responsible. (You know how some places the lifeguards are so busy chatting and flirting that you feel like you're interrupting them? Not here. These guys are super professional!)
You can bring in food, water, chairs, shade- they basically accommodate anything reasonable.
All in all, this place is amazing. It doesn't have everything you'd find at say, Sunsplash, but you won't have to take out a second mortgage to afford to go, either. There is plenty to keep us occupied and we always have a great experience. Thank you, City...

Once that gigantic water bucket starts tipping over, you know summer has officially begun. This is my favorite of the Chandler Aquatic Center pools, as it just has so many great things. In addition to the massive pail that dumps thousands of gallons onto gleefully squealing children, there is a lazy river which floats you under a series of randomly spilled smaller buckets, a whirlpool where you and your little one can swirl, a spouting fun house with slides for the kids, wet tube slides and a splash pad.
The lockers are located inside the bathrooms, which keeps them nice and cool... and they're only a quarter... not $10 like some SoCal amusement parks... however, I do get some quizzical looks as I enter the women's' restroom, with locker key noticeably displayed in my right hand, to retrieve my belongings.
There is a little snack trailer on the premises, which peddles all the things you love which are void of any nutritional value. Just today, I scored a hot dog, slice of pizza, bag of chips and an Italian ice... which ended up being the biggest purchase of the day at $7.50. There are 3 shaded picnic benches there, but dont think you'll get to sit while you dine... because three families got there before you did, and are now roosting in that prime real estate.
This place does get crowded, but hey, they will always be on the receiving...
