If you want an outdoor and uniquely charming wedding venue in Charleston, J.Q. Dickinson is hands down THE place. I grew up in Charleston but my wife and I reside in Austin, TX and we were nervous about planning from across the country but JQās staff quickly eased our stress because they were so attentive, responsive, and understanding of what we envisioned. We worked with Marie and Ashton for a little over a year to plan our October 2018 wedding. Both Marie and Ashton helped to weave our ideas into the a perfectly flowing evening. The ceremony was held in the garden, then we proceeded to the front of the bungalow for cocktail hour and around to the covered area for dinner and dancing. I loved how JQD allows itās clients to piece together their wedding package with the a la carte style rather than many other places that make you pay for things you donāt want or need (also, the overall pricing is affordable in comparison to many other venues). We were able to rent a lot of amenities directly from them - heaters (at the last minute!), lights, a fire pit, chairs, glassware, the list goes on...it was a great bonus to not have to deal with so many individual vendors. We also had the freedom to bring in outside catering and other rentals. Throughout the evening the staff checked in with us and our guests often and we felt more than accommodated. Itās location is only 10-15 minutes from downtown Charleston and they have plenty of parking, although we had a shuttle for our guests and that was a huge plus. The setting was perfect for our fall WV feel and we couldnāt have imagined it going more smoothly. Thanks JQD for helping our wedding dreams come true, we canāt wait to visit again soon!
PS I canāt go without mentioning how initially nervous we were to hold an LGBTQ wedding in WV and from day one we always felt 100% welcomed by JQ Dickinson. They never made us feel different or anything other than a couple in love and I canāt say enough how much that truly...

We had our wedding on the lawn, which easily fit 100 people, and our reception under the nearby (by nearby I mean like, 50 steps) pavilion, which looks beautiful at night under its string lights. Although it's next to a road, the landscaping truly makes the property feel secluded.
I got ready in the log-cabin-esque building, which had plenty of space for me and my wedding party. The building is well decorated and it includes a kitchen should your baker/caterer need it to store their goods. It also has bathrooms and a porch available to guests throughout the day.
Marie and Ashton (J.Q.'s wedding experts) were 100% helpful and available the second we booked our date. I honestly don't know what we would have done without them...
They helped me select our rentals (in-house), plan our seating chart, order our alcohol, schedule our servers and bartenders...they were the reason why our wedding day moved so seamlessly from setting up, organizing vendors, moving the events along, tending bar, you name it.
10/10 would get...

I drove an hour to the place only to find out it was closed because of lunch and theyād be back by 12:30. Wasnāt aware they closed for staff lunch. When they finally opened I asked about the tour and was told that the next tour wasnāt until one. Looked around their shop and told the lady we would wait outside. I went back in 5 mins before 1 to buy my tickets only be told that the buildings for the tour were closed because of temperature. Not sure why they couldnāt tell me that over the phone, or the first time I asked in person or when we were looking around their shop, or when I said Iād wait outside. Very poor customer service and communication. Drove an hour only to be told you couldnāt go inside the buildings. I wanted to harvest my own salt and they said they were too short staffed to do that. All of this could have been avoided if details were given over the phone but staff was very rude and short on the phone and in person. In person staff member acted like we were...
