We had a great time getting a personalized tour by the guy who.lives across the street and is the historian. Did you know that the painter of whistlers mother had a father. He painted him also and his Pic is hanging in the museum because he was the architect of the railroad from Albany to Boston. You can also stay overnight in a real caboose on premise for $70 a night. The largest granite saw in Massachusetts is next door. Be sure to check it out.

Huge history of railroading was made right here. Dave saw us in the parking lot and have is a your, opening up the station for us. Glamping in the caboose, the children's boxcar full of activities, and the station is totally restored and full of trainania and history of the first rail line connecting Boston with the Erie canal. Also enjoy the keystone bridge trail nearby and the ruins of the granite mill across the street.

Great museum and we enjoyed an overnight stay in the caboose. It is next to an active railroad - the trains coming by didn't bother us at all. Dave is very knowlegable and friendly. Lots to see in the museum, if you are interested in trains and the railroad's history, you should definately visit.

We stayed in the caboose for two nights of “glamping” over New Years Eve as a family of four (17 & 12 years old.) We had such a blast! There are space heaters (a/c for the hot months), Wi-Fi, and the bunks are surprisingly comfortable. It’s such a neat experience to go back in time to 1919! The caboose is right next to an active railroad so you get to see and hear trains throughout the day/night. It was surprisingly not disruptive even in the sleeping hours. There is a ton of fascinating local history and Dave is incredibly knowledgeable. He’s also super responsive to any questions and/or requests. His German Shepard named Major loves playing fetch with guests! The attached train museum is beautiful and filled with very interesting railway history. Bring sleeping bags, board games, and snacks and you’ll have a blast if this is your kind of thing! Highly recommend for a fun and...

My 3 yr old son and I went there for Chester on Track but had the wrong date. So we missed it. He was really sad. Luckily a very kind older Gentlemen unlocked everything at the museum for us. We had a great time and learned a lot of things even I didn't know. It was a wonderful experience. He even allowed my son to buy the train hat he had been wanting for forever. I highly recommend this place to people of all ages. So much history and its all free. Can't wait til next year's Chester on Track. And for anyone like me who doesn't know when it takes place, it is the Saturday before memorial day. Next year will be the 32nd year that have held this...

What a cool place! The building is authentic and full of artifacts and knowledge. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Outdoors are several rail cars including an actual caboose to walk through and a small steam locomotive. School programs available. Chester MA has a long history of the railroad and this important depot, emery abrasives and granite processing.

After April 18 2024, across the street, there will be an interpretive walking path through the ruins of a long-abandoned granite saw and factory. What a place. I won't spoil...
