Wow what a Breakfast! At the suggestion of our local rental host we took a stroll into beautiful Historic Downtown Chester to have breakfast at Carm's.
The setting is just quaint and wonderful right next to a beautiful brook and the end of Hampden Street Park, with a Visitor's Center right next door. Right away, you can just sense the amount of personal care that has gone into their renovations and recent soft opening. The front entrance walk was all new and wooden, the inside of the restaurant was very clean and had a very charming historic vibe while still being bright and inviting.
The woman who sat us and took care of our drinks and order was extremely friendly and genuinely nice and attentive. The man at the stove in the back was obviously proud of his cooking and with good reason! Coffee was great, eggs were cooked to perfection both ways we had them ordered, the bacon was superb, toast was excellent and buttered right.
Oh and yes one moment let me say this - Best. Corned. Beef. Hash. Ever.
EVER. The gentleman that cooked it mentioned something about slow cooked brisket and how long it takes to make right and was really happy to brag about it but to be honest my attention was just fixed on the taste of that corned beef hash. I would order a plate of nothing but that hash. You must try it if you visit the area!! Update to come on the biscuits and gravy - apparently also just as good.
Even the baked goods we bought to go were amazing. One of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had.
If you find yourself in Chester and are looking for a delicious breakfast or lunch, check this place out - delicious, honest, beautifully made food from some really great people who are proud of their work. We will...
Read moreWe found this restaurant while looking for a a quick bite to eat. Upon entering the restaurant we awkwardly stood there for about 2 minutes before going up to the counter to ask if we are supposed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. There was no indication that you are supposed to seat yourself. After we asked, one of the waitresses told us to sit wherever without giving us menus. We sat at our selected table for about 5 minutes without menus before someone else finally came over and gave us menus. Another waitress later on came and took our drink orders… after we got our drinks it still took a lengthy time for them to take our main food orders. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but what I ordered which was a beacon burger looked and tasted like it was a previously frozen burger. You can substitute your chips for homefries for a dollar which I did, and the amount of homefries I received was less than half a cup. I don’t think the substitution price is worth it. My mother ordered a roast beef sandwich, she was expecting deli roast beef but instead it was a quarter inch thick slice of roast beef that was throughly cooked and tough to bite through. The chips that you receive are commercially made chips, and the equivalent of a handful being taken out of a large bag. The waitress did not check on us, she just provided us with a check. I would not return there again if the...
Read moreIt was the reviews that brought us in but our experience was different, service was very slow and had 3 different servers. Loved that we could sit outdoors and our server said we could move to the shade since previous party left but the server never came back to wipe our table from the previous party, so we wiped it. My husband ordered the broccoli, avocado and Swiss omelet that came out as scrambled eggs floating in pool of water, we said he ordered the omelet and our 3rd sever said the cook must have forgot and just chopped it up. She vaguely offered to get him something else but after waiting 25 minutes just to have our order taken we said we were fine. Come to find out the family behind us ended up with the same meal in the same situation, omelettes turned into scrambled eggs with water because the cook forgot. Our short stack of pancakes were over done and tough to cut. Needless to say we won’t be returning or...
