This is a historic building located near the northwest Lake Manzanita entrance to Lassen VNP. Once being the private studio of its namesake B. F. Loomis, it offers visitors a look at the series of intense photographs that made him famous--the eruption of Lassen Peak over a century ago.
The museum provides information about the four types of volcanoes located within the park and its various volcanic features. There is a park-relevant movie theater, and also an exhibit about the Atsugewi Native Americans that lived in the area with an excellent display of their traditional basketry. Now a visitor center, rangers can answer any questions about the park. Postcards, books and other items can be purchased at a small educational bookstore.

Read more12/04/2024: Please be aware that the Loomis Museum at the north side of Lassen Volcanic National Park is currently closed for the season, and most likely will not re-open until sometime in May 2025.
During the winter the highway in the north side of LVNP is open to vehicular traffic to the Loomis Plaza.
As an alternative source of information, or to get your National Park Passport book stamped, please visit the non-profit Lassen Association store over in the Loomis Residence building across the plaza from the museum. Weather permitting they are open Fridays thru Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM.

It's one of the only places that has information on the Native Indians that were in the area before the whites wiped them out.
