Forced to stop here as our vehicle had broken down. As we had to push it up the steep hill nearest the park I found myself extremely grateful to be there at a place intended to allow a moment of rest long enough to catch my breath. They offer a bit of historical information related to Popeye's connection to the beautiful small town of Chester, snack & soda vending machines along with a restroom. I believe at one point a balcony was available for a great view of the mighty Mississippi River but I have not personally ever saw this area opened up. As it has always been roped off with caution tape and is quite high off the ground I wouldn't recommend testing the validity of the structural damage claims. Should u consider it I'd remind u that they call it the mighty Mississippi w good reason as it's the longest river n the world and she has a turbulent current that has taken many lives. Additionally the sewer drain visible below it when returning from perryville just over the bridge looks like pennywise may have originated there. It should be noted that if u are stopped here one might need to be aware that you are then right next door to Menard...

Has scenic overlook boardwalk that expanses across a steep hillside, adjacent to the welcome center, to take in the breathtaking views of the Mississippi River.
The old Chester Bridge is also well visualized from the boardwalk, and most impressive is the unobstructed view of the construction of the new Chester Bridge over the Mississippi River being constructed.
Anyone interested in bridge construction, this would be a must-see event.

It is an awesome view of the gateway to the West , the Chester Bridge. If your lucky you can get a view of four types of transportation at once. Automobile, train , boat and Airplane. There is a bronze statue of the mighty sailor himself, Popeye!! This is the start of the tour of the legendary Popeye the Sailor. Throughout Chester there are statue you can stop and take selfie with. Also on most day the museum in the middle of town is open to visit....
