Perry County MO Government along with City of Perryville Government representatives gathered with many other state and federal officials from both Missouri and Illinois to commemorate the ground breaking for the new Don Welge Memorial Bridge. Also present were members of the Welge family, officials from MoDOT and IDOT. New bridge to open in 2026.

Someone is going to die! I crossed this bridge on my way from SD to FL. Half way across this bridge I noticed the bridge is falling apart and would never again cross this bridge again if given the chance. DOT needs to close this bridge immediately! Do not wait until the new bridge is built.

I’ve driven on this bridge for the last decade going to and from my grandparents house and it has rapidly deteriorated and needs to be replaced. You can see exposed metal bars on each side under crumbling concrete and they have reduced the weight from 50 tons down to 25 tons. Don’t know how much longer the bridge will be there before someone ends up falling through into the Mississippi River....

In need of MASSIVE repair and it has been for ages. Very rickety, rusty, and you can tell it's falling apart. I can't imagine how horrifying going over this bridge in something like a semi is.

In fact, this bridge is so bad it was actually featured in a VICE News video titled "America's Infrastructure Is Crumbling" at 4:40. I recommend giving it a watch, it's...

Been on this bridge. Once you cross over from Missouri to Illinois, don't forget to stop by the Segar Memorial Park that's on your right, right after you finish crossing the bridge. It's homage to the late Elzie Segar, who was born there in 1894 and he is the cartoonist who created Popeye. It was cool posing for pictures next to the Popeye...
