Chico Havurah is a small Reconstructionist congregation. Although they are a smaller organization, they welcome all newcomers with open arms. They emphasize more on religious aspects of their organization rather than on extravagant visuals and decoration. The appearance of Chico Havurah looks quite regular: a large, one-story building. It does, however, have a large cross hanging on the wall outside of the building. It looks quite similar to a modern church; one that does not have the aged, wooden, pentagon shape like an older church would. Upon arriving to this congregation as a visitor, you will be greeted with open arms, as many of the members are really welcoming. Read moreAttended for the first time while visiting my daughter who goes to Chico State. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed, greeted at the entrance and even offered name tags, which I thought was a thoughtful touch that helped open the door to conversations and connection.
The message was strong, easy to follow and filled with truth. I especially appreciated the way the worship was woven into the service. They began with worship, then had the sermon, and ended with more worship, which was honestly my favorite part! The music was moving and well done, creating a really meaningful atmosphere.
It’s not a huge church, which made it feel comfortable and not overwhelming, but the sense of community and fellowship felt large and full of life. You could feel that people were genuinely happy to be there and open to connecting.
