Lower Bidwell Park — Attraction in Chico

Lower Bedwell Park.. I literally go here everyday with my dog at some point. Besides being beautiful and easy to access, you can cool off with your beloved 100 lb Teddy bear and just chill out. I drive right up to the water or picnic spot but the trees still hide the car so it feels very natur-y . Its rarely overcrowded and 9 out of 10 times I can get the spot that I was aiming for that day. If you have enough time you can move rocks around inside the creek and change the level of the water at the site you're visiting. For instance we made number eight really deep one day by adding to the natural semi dam. So much fun!! There are plenty of places with deep enough water to go under all the way ! One time we made rock towers and circles,ponds and water falls while we cooled off. There's some hidden gem spots off the main trail and numbers if you look hard enough. The scenery is always changing with the flow of water and the seasons so It's just a wonderful Park to have in the middle of...

I am very saddened by what is happening to lower Bidwell park. I have lived here my whole life and what the City is and has allowed to go on here is unacceptable. I do clean up projects with Community groups and there are numerous illegal transient encampments hidden everywhere. During clean ups we find numerous hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia, human excrement and tons of garbage left by the homeless that have taken up residence here. Please if you wish to enjoy the park. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and stay on the paths. Most of all don't go alone, there are some very aggressive transient/homeless that...

Transient problems... otherwise the park has wonderful layout, activities are everywhere from a natural pool, stream, kids park, exercise trail with activities and individual day park spots along the river.

That said there is a transient problem that are agressive and everywhere. Just today we took are child walking along 1 mile only to have to turn arou d due to intoxicated gentleman throwing knives at site 1.
