Nice exhibit explaining history of the mining industry in this part of Minnesota. On display are trains, huge dump trucks and various other machines used in mining iron ore. Big toys for big boys, how can you go wrong! I spent 4 hours seeing all the exhibits. If you are interested in mining this is an interesting place to visit.

Lots to see outside, and even more to see inside several buildings. Great “hands on” museum. 1-2 hours to see it all. Easy to get in and out of.

It's a great hands-on museum. Informative video to start the tour and access to most of the mining equipment along with era correct exhibits.

Friday June 21st 3:30pm Great atmosphere, interesting items, and very clean. However, when I walked in the lobby and started looking around, the front desk staff member almost appeared annoyed that I was there. I was walking around just the front and looking at pictures and asking simple questions about dates and locations, and he/she couldn't care less. Upon leaving, I thanked the person even for the brief 5 minute I was in the lobby and rudely gestured, "You know if you walk around anymore, you're going to have to pay." Crazy to think that you can't even look at photographs or items on display without being pressured to pay. I understand seeing the 95% of the other museums, but to simply demand payment without a how are or a greeting is incredibly rude...

My kids 13,11,8 had a great time. Lots of things to see. Staff was friendly and helpful to us unlike some of the others comments. We spent about 1.5 hours there. Staff helped us with directions to other things around town. Went to the overlook on the northwest side of town. That was cool too. And to the other commenter about paying to take pictures, they are funded by admissions and grants. It costs money for taxes, mowing the grass, staff, building maintenance. Leave a tip for the...

Actually, surprisingly extensive and informative! And a great value. Very informative movie detailing how taconite production works, two relatively large halls with very well done exhibits on technology in the early part of the 20th century, and a large open area with tons of huge mining equipment. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area and at all interested in the technology that makes this...
