I have been coming here since I was really young and have a lot of fond memories about this area. I love the small pier you can walk out on, the bayside beaches, the walking path from one end to the other.
I especially love the wind sculpture near the marina offices. I have brought my family often over the past decade or so, since we discovered it. It's a great place to practice mindfulness and mediation, although the construction on the hotel kind of negates the peaceful vibes (temporary), as well as the dock master's flagpole chain clanking. Although it adds to a mindfulness aspect, it's jarring and you lose focus on the sound from the sculpture. Sadly, in recent years, it has been neglected and some strings have been damaged or missing. I really hope they attend to fixing this up. And I hope they don't get rid of it.
There are other art installations on both sides of the marina area (the J St Marina Park to the south has them as well). There are chess/checkers tables in various locations, and many of them have been recently redone, and one (or maybe more?) already vandalized.
Fishing is allowed on the pier.
On the side of the park south of the marina (J St Marina Park), we felt less comfortable due to a large section of homeless camps and trash. There was also a man passed out on the sidewalk and we had to walk around him. (We hoped he was just sleeping.) If my kids were young again, I wouldn't be able to let them play without close supervision. As it was, I had a hard time taking my teenagers there—they kept wanting to check out what people had left behind there.
There would have been 5 stars if the southern side felt safer. 4 stars is generous. If there wasn't a lot I loved, it...

Read moreThis is a park I've gone to many times as I am from the area. The park itself is nice. Several places to sit, lovely grass that overlooks the water, and just the beauty of the area. The bathrooms have always been bad so I assume they still are despite me not using them today. I was very unhappy with the play structure of the playground. One slide was blocked off and the majority of the play structure is not fit for a young toddler. Ny son could only go up the stairs and down one slide. Most of the kids were taking turns despite their young age. It did work out then. It wasn't working out when older kids were around as they took over the small slide since the big one was out of commission. I also absolutely hate the rubber to sand. My son, the other kids, and I kept slipping and tripping as we stepped on it to go from the mat area.to the sand and vice versa. The stairs were at the rubber. The slide let off on the sand. I had to help my son scoot to the edge of the slide, so I was going back and forth. I also wish there was a bit of fencing sonkods cannot take off to the parking lot that is...
